When Can A Divorced Surviving Spouse First Be Paid?

I have read your book 'Get what yours' cover to cover and thank you for your great contribution and guidance towards our understanding of how we can have a better retirement.

One question: If the divorced surviving spouse's 60th birthday falls on Sep 17 (birthday of deceased ex spouse was Nov 1), when can the divorced surviving spouse expect to see the first check for survivor's benefit assuming applied for benefits in July, 2019.

When Is My Widow's Pension Check Coming To My Bank?

When is my widows pension check coming into my bank? Also, LaRRY HOW MUCH A MONTH BEFORE TAXES CAN I WORK WITHOUT GETTING MY CHECK TAKEN AWAY?

Hi,

I need more information to be able to properly answer your questions. What I can tell you is that Social Security basically pays benefits a month behind. So, if you are eligible for a benefit payment for the month of June, your payment would be scheduled for sometime in July.

Why Did Social Security Change My Payment Date?

I am nearly 80 years old. I have been receiving Social Security Retirement Payments for many years. My birthday falles between the 1st and the 10th so I have been receiving the payments on the 2nd Wednesday of each month (more or less). I rely on the payment to pay for normal living expenses and, most importantly, our mortgage.
Today I received a letter from the SSA that says in effect:
- You will NOT receive a retirement check in March.
- You will receive your "March" check on April 3rd.
- You will receive your "April" check on May 3rd.

When Should I Expect To Receive My First Check?

I filed and suspended in April 2016. I reach 70 on December 11,
2018. I've been told by SSA I need do nothing to begin receiving benefits at
age 70. Assuming this is true, when should I expect to receive my first
benefit check? Also, is there a way to ensure that SSA will indeed recognize
that I want to end the suspension at age 70? Or should I contact SSA and tell
them to end suspension on November 30, 2018, so I get benefit in January,
2019, since SSA will pay for December 2018 only if I date my end of

If I Die After Receiving My Social Security Payment Will It Have To Be Returned?

I get my benefits on the 3rd of the Month . Then make all my payments that day . If I die later in that same month will my benefits have to be returned as that would be a burden on my family ?

Hi,

No. The payment you receive on the 3rd of the month is for the prior month. For example, the payment that you will receive on May 3rd is your Social Security benefit for the month of April. If you subsequently died during the month of May, the payment you received on May 3rd would not have to be returned.

Best, Jerry
