Will I Qualify For Benefits On My First Husband's Record As Soon As My Divorce Is Final?
Hi Larry, my current husband and I have just a few week and our divorce will be final. I'm currently on SSD due to Crohn's Diease, I've been collecting disability since 2001. I work from age 15-37 yrs of age. I'm only receiving $776 a month which once my divorce is final, there is no way I can survive on that amount monthly. I was married for 10 yrs to my first husband who died in an auto accident. I'm soon to be 55 yrs old and can I collect my deceased husband's disability benefits after my current marriage divorce is final? My first husband was 28 at the time of his death and . . . Read More

Am I Missing Out On Benefits?
My husband worked for the Rairoad for 32 yrs.but passed away before eligible to retire (age 53). This was his only employment and never paid into Social Security. At the time of his passing I was 52 and went to work full time paying into S.S. I had worked some before his death.. My social security wages were strictly my earnings. I took Railroad widows pension at 62 and continued to work until I was 76. I am aware of the double dipping rule but am wondering how or if this affects my retirement as to claiming S.S. also. I have read all the information available on line but am . . . Read More

Am I Allowed To Make Any Money Without Being Penalized?
Hi Larry I have been collecting disability Social security for 10 years and make 2100.00 a month am I allowed to make any money with out being penalized? Thank you Bob
Hi,
I assume that you mean that your benefit rate is $2100, and you aren't earning that much. People receiving Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) are generally permitted to make up to $1170 per month without losing any of their disability benefits. For more detailed information about working while receiving SSDI benefits, refer to this Social Security publication: . . . Read More

Is What I'm Receiving Correct?
I am 56 and disabled since 2009. I receive 550.40 a month. 443.00 after they deduct for insurance. My husband passed this year. He was 79 and drew 773.60 per month. I now only receive 180.30 per month on my husband. Is this correct? We always thought it would be more. $623.30 a month is not enough to live on. We expected at least enough to pay utilities. Please tell me this is wrong.. what can I do to make sure I'm getting all I'm entitled to. Thank you

How Would Remarriage Affect Our Benefits?
I collect 202 a month from my disabled exspouse . we were married 20 years.. . we want to remarry. how will this affect our soc security ?
Hi,
Assuming that you mean that you are drawing a divorced spousal benefit from Social Security, remarriage to the same person will likely not affect either of your benefit rates. However, unless you remarry on the first day of a month, you will likely lose a month of your divorced spousal/spousal benefits. For an explanation of this policy, refer to the following reference from Social Security's operations . . . Read More

Do I Need To Apply In Order To Switch To My Own Record At Age 70?
I filed a restricted application at age 66 and have been getting spousal benefits on my wife's record (she filed at age 62). I will turn 70 next year. Do I need to apply to SS to switch to my own benefit at age 70, or is it automatic? If it is automatic, will they automatically switch my Medicare card number back to my SS number (It was changed to my spouse' SS number when I filed the restricted application).
Hi,
The switch from spousal to retirement benefits is NOT automatic, so you will need to file an application in order to switch to your own . . . Read More
