Spousal Benefits

Is The Amount That My Wife Is Receiving Correct?

Larry my wife started collecting her benefit at 62. I waited until my full retirement age. But when they added her to my benefit she not even close to half. I’m receiving $1,954 and she only getting $765. Is that right?

Hi,

Probably. If a person starts drawing reduced retirement benefits on their own record prior to full retirement age (FRA), the resulting reduction for age that's applied to their benefit rate continues even if they subsequently become entitled to spousal benefits.

When Can I File For Spousal Benefits?

Hello, first thank you for your time! I have read many things about SS benefits but I'm still confused. I am currently still married but do not live with my spouse. I guess you can say we are separated (Not Legally) but have not been together in over a decade. We also live in 2 different states. He filed for SS after he was 62. He's 65 now and I'm 5 years younger. So I am 60 now. When can I file for spousal benefits? I do not want to file for mine until I am 67 to get full benefits.

Would I Be Able To Claim Spousal Benefits At Age 62?

Dear Larry,
Quickly, My husband was born in 1957, I was born in 1968. I was awarded Disability Benefits in 2014. I've looked everywhere to find answers but just I've found online seems to apply to our situation.
My husband will be working to or past his FRA. I don't recall the amount his SS record says his benefit would be, but even 50% would still be a lot more than the $825 a month disability I receive.

Am I Eligible For Spousal Benefits?

My husband age 74 receives $2000 social security and also a pension. I am 74 and I receive $500. social security and an L.A. county government pension. We started receiving social security at age 62. I didn't know about spousal benefits. Am I eligible to spousal benefits since my husband's social security is higher than my social security?
