Why Isn't My Mother-In-Law Receiving Spousal Benefits?

Hi Larry: My mother in-law who is now in her early 80’s has never collected social security. My father in-law does collect his, I’m wondering why she didn’t get a spousal benefit or up to 1/2 of my father-in-law portion. She does get a small pension working as a school librarian, Andy she didn’t pay social security. Regards

When Can My Husband Get Spousal Benefits?

My husband of 11/2 years took SS retirement benefits at age 62, and he will be 69 this year. I am 58 and plan to delay filing for my benefits until age 70. I am a much higher earner. When can my husband get spousal benefits on my earnings record? Thanks, Melissa

Hi Melissa,

The soonest that your husband could potentially qualify for spousal benefits from your record is when you start drawing either Social Security retirement or disability benefits.

If I File For Spousal Benefits At FRA How Much Will I Receive?

My husband retired this year at 63 and is receiving a pension. He is going to apply for SS which should start at 63 1/2,; our income then will be the same as when he was working. My question-I am 60, if I wait until my FRA of 66 yrs and 10 mos will I get 50% of my husband’s SS at 63 1/2 or 66 1/2, his FRA. Thanks.

If I File For Spousal Benefits Before FRA Can I Receive 50% Of My Husband's Amount?

Hi Larry-I've done some research but am still confused about starting my Social Security benefits. I plan on filing spousal benefits. My husband will file at FTA, but I'm 9 months younger than he is. When he files, can I file spousal benefits and receive 50% of his at his time of filing? Thanks!

Can I Collect Spousal Benefits Now?

I took my social security at 62. My wife won't be 62 until 2023. Can I collect on spousal benefits know or do I have to wait until she is 62 or older.

Hi,

The earliest that you could qualify for spousal benefits is when your wife starts drawing either Social Security retirement or disability benefits.

If I File Now How Do I Figure Out What My Wife's Spousal Rate Would Be?

Hello

I am 62 & 3 months and my wife is 65 & 3 months. She has been on SS disability for 25 years gets a pretty small check. I make enough that if I file but keep working I will not keep any of my benefit but I understand that it just goes back to my account. If I file now how do I figure out what my wife’s spousal benefits would be. Thanks
