Spousal Benefits

Am I Eligible To Apply For Spousal Benefits In Addition To My Own Benefits If My Husband Receives SSDI?

I am 68 years old and retired. I receive SSI Retirement. My husband is disabled and recieves SS Disability. Am I eligible to apply for spousal benefits along with my retirement? And will affect his disability amount that he receives now?

At My Wife's Full Retirement Age Will She Be Able To Collect 50% Of My Benefit Amount?

my wife is 1 1/2 yrs older than me. She was born 7/24/1957, I was born 12/20/1958. Half of my projected FRA SS is more than her FRA estimate. At her FRA, will she be able to collect 50% of what mine projects to be?

Thank you

Hi,

The answer to that depends on whether or not you are drawing your benefits at that time. Your wife couldn't be paid any spousal benefits from your record at least until you start drawing your benefits.

Is My Husband Able To Get His Benefit Increased Based On My Higher Benefit?

Hi Larry,
My husband has coronary artery disease and had 2 stents placed 2009, then in 2012 had a double bypass. He was unable to continue his job as maintanence engineer for 2 hotels. I felt he should apply for disability benefits but he decided to file for SS benefits as he was 62. He has received the reduced payment since 2012. I retired at 70 and receive full benefits. We are 73 and 74 respectively. Is he able to get his benefit increased from my benefit which is $1000 + more than his?
Thanks, Jo Ann

Is It Possible For A Person To Switch To Their Spouse's Benefit After Receiving Their Own?

My wife and I were both born in 1955. She in February myself in November. We have both continue to work full-time jobs and were not planning on retiring until 2025 when we turn 70. I make 6 times the amount my wife does for our local school district, obviously 1/2 my benefit is greater than her benefit alone. Originally we were going to file and suspend until that was removed. Lately, I have been thinking about her taking her full benefit this year and switching to my benefit in 2025 when I retire. We would have to switch to Married filing separately if we do this.

Will My Husband's Belgian Pension Have Any Effect On What He Can Receive From My Social Security Account?

Hi Larry my husband is from Europe he is retired and receiving pension benefits from his country. I will be retiring in 3 yrs 2 months (66.6 age) and as of now pension estimates show I stand to get $2,700 plus per month from Social Security and my husband will get 1/2 of what I will be getting? But what about his pension from Belgium will that affect what he is getting from SSA on my work record? Thank you very much.

Will My Wife Get A Full 50% Of My Benefit Amount When I Start Drawing?

I was born 5/24/'55, daWyfe was born 11/26/'55 (exactly 6 months-ish)......our full retirement age will be 66 n' 2 months....I'm waiting till July 24th 2021, to receive full retirement benefits; she took HER benefits at age 62 ($770/month).....when I receive full benefits, does she then get 50% of MY benefits, or must she wait til HER full retirement age, or does she get reduced benefits, as a result of her earlier retirement disbursement?....she says she gets 50%, regardless of her previous SSI disbursement, I think I read it to be 25% of my full retirement benefits (because sh

Am I Calculating My Wife's Future Spousal Rate Correctly?

At full retirement age (“FRA”) my wife will start receiving her SS benefits based on her records of $628 per month. DOB is June 24, 1955; FRA is 66 years + 2 months or August 24, 2021.

I will not start receiving my SS benefits until age 70 (currently shown as $4,074 per month). The amount currently shown for my benefits at FRA (66) is $3,263. My DOB is March 5, 1954.

Can We Do An Appeal?

Hi Larry,
First of all we wish you a Merry X'Mas and Happy, Healthy, Peaceful and SAFE 2021.

Myself (now 73+) : Retired / Already receiving full SS started at 70 years (from Nov 2017)

Spouse (now 65+): Never worked. When we went to SSA (wife was 62+ at that time, we were told my wife is eligible to start the SSA payments. Started receiving reduced amounts from Nov 2017.

We were not aware of the repercussions related to getting 50% of husband's SSA payments when she reaches FRA (i.e.66 years + 2 months).
