Is Your Software Automatically Renewed?

I notice that your software is available for a $40 annual license fee. Is this an automatic renewal? If I pay for the annual license this year to start my retirement planning (I am currently 53) do I need to continue to pay the $40 every year until I start drawing Social Security?

Hi,

No, annual subscriptions to our software are not renewed automatically.

Best, Jerry

Is There Anything I Can Do To Increase My Benefit Amount At Age 62?

I turned 62 in the last part of Jan. and I have a good amount of money saved. Planned on taking Social Security as soon as I can so I don't have to used the money I have in my IRA. Is there anything I can do to increase the amount at age 62.
Thanks in advance.

Can I Get Benefits On My Ex's Record If He Dies Outside The U.S.?

I was married to my husband for 11 years. I am 12 years older than him. When we separated in 2002, I discovered he was not an american citizen, but had come to the US on a student visa when he was 15, sponsored by his uncle. His parents came to the US when he was in college. After college he worked professional jobs until 2005 when went back to Fiji (court ordered.) My question to you, ...( The news from Fiji is..my X husband is dying of cancer.) Will I be able to file for a widows pension in the event that he passes, here in Sacramento? He is 56 now.

Is There Anywhere I Can Make A Complaint Of Concern?

Hello
I recently applied for Social Security, I turn 62 or more to 25th, I was told that my first check will be for the month of April however my first payment would be in May. I was told that my payment will be a month behind, meaning in my opinion I will never see that payment due to the fact it will be paid after death. What I'm not understanding if my dad died in June 18, last year therefore he receives his may check in June, what happened to his June check which he was alive that month ? What do the Social Security department do with peoples math what do the Social . . . Read More

What Happens To My Survivor Benefits If I Remarry Before Age 60?

My husband passed away suddenly approx 5 yrs ago. I now have an inherited IRA-invested. He was only 52. We were married 31 years. I am now 55. I have questions. What happens to my survivor/widower benefits if I remarry before age 60? I believe I loose them but not sure. What happens if I get married then divorced? Do I regain my first husband's back? What happens if I stay married, but my second husband dies? I have worked full time my whole life-how do my retirement benefits work with my first husbands retirement benefits/survivor/widower benefits, my own benefits, and, if I . . . Read More

Can I Take A Lump Sum On My Spouse's Social Security?

I am 68+ years old and want to apply for a restricted SS application. I want to take half of my spouse SS. My question is: Can I take a lump sum on my spouses SS with a reduced payment and then convert to my SS at age 70. .Is there any drawbacks to this approach? Or would you recommend just taking 1/2 of my spouse SS. Thank you

Hi,

I'm not sure what you are referring to by a lump sum. If your spouse has been receiving their benefits for at least the last 6 months and you haven't yet filed for your benefits, you could file for spousal benefits up to 6 . . . Read More

If I File For My Benefits And Then My Husband Dies, Can I Suspend My Benefits And Draw Widow's Benefits Instead?

If I file for SS benefits at 64.4 and then my husband, who was born 4-13-53 files for a restricted spousal benefit at 66, so his SS can grow till 70, but he should die at 68, could I then suspend mine, take a widow benefit at 66 and let my SS grow until maxed out at 70, and then go back to my SS??????

Hi,

No. Once you file for your own retirement benefits that becomes your primary benefit for life. If you subsequently become entitled to a higher widow's benefit, what you would then get is your own benefit plus a partial widow's benefit that would . . . Read More

He did Marry a exwife in order to get health insurance through her job. Is he eligible to collect spousal disability? Would this effect the amount she would recieve when she retires?

It sounds like your friend wouldn't qualify for Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) unless he became disabled in 2009 or earlier. In order to qualify for SSDI after age 30, a person must . . . Read More

Can The Rental Income That We Get From Renting Our House Be Used To Earn Social Security Credits?

I am planning to wait until age 70 to claim my social security benefits. My wife worked outside the home for a time before we started our family, but has not worked for a paycheck in many years. It turns out she's 3 credits short of the 40 required for her own benefit. We're planning to move and offer our current house for rent soon--is it possible to use that business in some way for her to get her 3 remaining credits? Thanks!

Hi,

Probably not. Rental income is almost always considered as unearned income and is therefore not subject to Social . . . Read More
