I’ve always been paid on the 3rd of each month my birthday is between 1-10 now my pay is the 2nd Wednesday why was this changed I’m 72

Hi. There haven't been any changes in Social Security's regulations regarding payment dates since 1997, so I don't know why your payment date is changing unless there's been a change in your status.

Based on the regulations passed by Congress in 1997, the only people who should be getting paid on the 3rd day of the month are a) people who applied for benefits prior to April 30 1997, or b) people who also receive . . . Read More

Will My Payment Date Change In 2022?

My we and I have been getting our checks on the 3rd of every month since 2014,Will that change for 2022. The person who changed the date was a Rep who worked for SSI

Hi. I have no way of knowing whether or not your payment date will change, but I can tell you that Social Security employees don't decide the day of the month on which you're paid. The day of the month on which people are paid their benefits is determined by the Social Security regulations, which were passed into law by Congress in 1997. Those regulations haven't changed since 1997, so there' . . . Read More

Should I File Now Or At Age 70?

My husband is 67 and is at FRA. He plans to retire at the end of February 2022. I am 63, FRA is 66 years & 8 months. I am self employed & working part time from home, making around $15,000 per year.

I have run the What If reports but now confused if I should think about filing now at under my FRA & continuing to work; (I don't think I would make the over limit amount of $18,960) vs waiting until I reach my full FRA (June 2025) or even 70. I'm confident that we can live on what my husband's Social Security will be but not sure if I should file now, at FRA or . . . Read More

Is It True That I Can't Be Paid Any Survivor Benefits?

I was with my husband for 20 yrs. Married 7. He died at 35. My income was more than his. I am on disability so they said I can't claim survivor benefits. We had no children. That was in 2001. Is it true I can't get survivor benefits?

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm assuming that you were still married to your husband at the time of his death, since you would need to have been married for at least 10 years to potentially qualify for survivor benefits as a divorced spouse.

It sounds like what you were told is probably true, but I can't tell you for . . . Read More

Why Did My Payment Date Change?

I get my disability check from from the SSA
On the 4th Wednesday of the month for the last 4 years. This month with no warning and no reason on the third of the month. I like it better it fits my financial situation better. My worry is will it come this month on the 3rd or will I have to wait almost 2 months till the 4th Wednesday of the following month. If it's the latter I will miss my rent and basically starve to death.

Hi. Without access to your Social Security records I can't explain the apparent change in your payment date. Payment dates can sometimes change when a . . . Read More

Can I Get Dependent Benefits From The Man I Lived With For 15 Years?

I am a 59 yr old mother and grandmother. I worked all my life raising 3 kids alone. I met someone at the same time my work went out of business. He worked on a dredge boat and we happily traveled around Alabama mostly (some Florida) with his job. We lived like we were married from 2004 till he died in 2019. I couldn't work because we moved every month or week with his job. I was totally dependent on him. He claimed me on his taxes and his perdium went in a separate account which I used to take care of home(camper we traveled in) He died from lung cancer without much notice. He . . . Read More

Is There Any Way To Get My Former Employer To Pay FICA Taxes On My Vacation And Severance Pay?

I currently use you Maximize software and it has helped me make my original decision to file at FRA and also 20 months later to suspend until age 70, since I am now receiving a pension from TRS and the WEP will reduce what I would receive from SSA.
In Aug 2021 I was part of the RIF at Dallas College (DC) in Texas.
DC does not participate into Social Security and pays into the TRS of Texas.
At separation I received Vacation pay and 6 months of severance pay which is being paid monthly until Feb 2022.
DC did not report these amounts to TRS, did not . . . Read More

Will My Payment Arrive Early Because Of The New Year Holiday?

hi i am on ss and medicare and medicaid through pennsylvania....i receive my checks on the 3rd of each month. will it be earlier this year because of the new years holliday?

Hi. No. January 3rd 2022 isn't a holiday and falls on a Monday, so people who are normally paid on the 3rd of the month should get their payments on Monday January 3rd (https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10031-2022.pdf).

If My Wife Claims Her Own SS At Age 62 Will It Affect Her Spousal Benefit When I File For My SS?

Hello and happy new year. We have purchased an annual subscription to Maximize my Social Security but wanted to clarify our understanding before my wife files for her own SS benefit. My wife will be 62 in March (born 1960), she has own earnings from employment and qualifies for $525/month (PIA=$746).. If she claims her own SS benefit at 62 will it affect her spousal benefit when I claim my own SS in 2030 (when I turn 70, born 1960) and she claims spousal benefit at same time? We understand her benefit from her own earnings will be permanently less but Maxim My SS results show . . . Read More
