Will My Payment Date Change In 2022?

My we and I have been getting our checks on the 3rd of every month since 2014,Will that change for 2022. The person who changed the date was a Rep who worked for SSI

Hi. I have no way of knowing whether or not your payment date will change, but I can tell you that Social Security employees don't decide the day of the month on which you're paid. The day of the month on which people are paid their benefits is determined by the Social Security regulations, which were passed into law by Congress in 1997. Those regulations haven't changed since 1997, so there's no reason that your payment date would change unless your status has changed.

Based on the 1997 regulations, the only people who should be receiving their payments on the 3rd day of the month are a) people who applied for benefits prior to April 30 1997, or b) people who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, or c) people who are residing outside of the U.S. If you don't meet one of those exceptions then your Social Security benefits would normally be paid on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday of the month depending on the birthdate of the person on whose record the benefits are paid (https://www.ssa.gov/kc/rp_paybenefits.htm).

Best, Jerry
