Why Has My Payment Date Changed?

I’ve always been paid on the 3rd of each month my birthday is between 1-10 now my pay is the 2nd Wednesday why was this changed I’m 72

Hi. There haven't been any changes in Social Security's regulations regarding payment dates since 1997, so I don't know why your payment date is changing unless there's been a change in your status.

Based on the regulations passed by Congress in 1997, the only people who should be getting paid on the 3rd day of the month are a) people who applied for benefits prior to April 30 1997, or b) people who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, or c) people who are residing outside of the U.S. So, if you've been receiving your benefits on the 3rd day of the month then you apparently met one of those exceptions. If you no longer meet one of the exceptions, then your benefits would normally be paid on either the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday of the month depending on your birthday (https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-01957).

Best, Jerry
