Spousal Benefits

If My Primary Insurance Amount Increases, Does My Wife's Spousal Benefit Also Increase?

Category:

My wife and are are both age 68. At age 66, I filed and immediately suspended to allow my wife to begin claiming her Spousal benefit. She does not have her own benefit. I continued to work and recently received a notice that my PIA has increased as a result of the continued work increasing the average indexed monthly income. Will this increase in MY PIA (currently being deferred), cause my wife's spousal benefit to get a bump to 1/2 of the FRA PIA?

Hi,

How Much Will My Wife Get On My Record?

Category:

If I take early retirement SS payment of $1800/month. Can my spouse who is also 63 take early retirement payments on my record? If so how , how much will she get?

Thanks

Hi,

Your wife may be able to get spousal benefits when you start drawing, but if she files prior to full retirement age she'll be deemed to have also applied for her own retirement benefits. And, she'll only get roughly the higher of the 2 benefits.

Can My Wife Get An Excess Spousal Benefit After Filing On Her Own Record?

Category:

My wife, who is currently 64 (birth date 2/24/52), was going to take her retirement benefit today. She was told by the Social Security office that, if she did this, she would not be eligible for an excess spousal benefit when I applied and took my benefit at age 66 or later (I am currently 62; birth date 1/29/54). I was under the impression that she would get an excess spousal benefit (provided her own benefit at FRA was less than 50% of my benefit at FRA) when I began taking my benefit at age 66 or later.

Will I Switch From My Own Benefit To Spousal Benefits When My Huband Files?

This question has probably been answered at least in part, but it's still confusing. Here's my situation...I will be 65 in November of this year. I started collecting my own social security when I turned 62. My husband is 66 and working full time until September, 2017. He will collect Social Security at that time. My question is, when he collects, will I be able to change over to spousal benefit, or will my benefit remain as is? Thank you so much.
