How Is An Employer Notified That An Employee Is Receiving Social Security Medical Coverage?

how does an employer get notified that an employee is receiving social security medical coverage?

Hi,

I'm not sure I understand the crux of your question. Your employer wouldn't necessarily be notified if you have Medicare coverage, but if you have health insurance through an employer and you're also signed up for Medicare, the insurance companies involved would need to know about the other coverage in order to coordinate payment of any claims. In that event, you would most likely need to notify the appropriate insurance companies yourself.

She does not have a relationship at all with him and he would not give her any info if asked. I am also willing to make her an appt to speak to someone very knowledgeable about this, . . . Read More

Can My Wife Start Out Getting Spousal Benefits And Still Be Eligible After We Divorce?

My wife and I are getting divorced at the same time I'm retiring (early). I'm 62 (born in 1954) and she's 74. She was told that she would have to wait 2 years to get spousal benefits. Our divorce is final in 3 months. Can she apply NOW (as I am) and continue to collect spousal benefits after we divorce?

Hi,

As long as you're already drawing your benefits and you've been married for at least a year and aren't yet divorced, your wife could potentially be eligible for spousal benefits on your record. Then when your divorce becomes final, her spousal . . . Read More

Will My Alimony Be Affected If I Receive Disability Benefits?

I am 60 yr old female. Divorced. Receiving alimony. I have health issues and cannot work. I recently applied for social security disability. I have worked since teenager. Will that affect my alimony?

Hi,

I'm unable to answer that question. I assume that it would depend on the terms specified in your divorce settlement.

I can tell you that your alimony won't affect your ability to receive Social Security disability benefits, nor your benefit amount.

Yes, since you are over age 60 you could still receive surviving divorced spousal benefits even if you remarry. However, the Social Security earnings test may limit the amount of benefits you could receive until you reach full retirement age (https://www.ssa.gov/planners/ . . . Read More

Hi,

If you are receiving Social Security disability benefits based on your own work history, your marriage won't affect your benefits. However, if you are receiving Supplemental Security Income (https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/), your marriage likely will have an impact on your payments, and you are required to report changes in your marital status to . . . How Do I Submit A SS-44 Online?

What do I need to do to submit a SS-44 and appropriate documents online?

Hi,

I assume you mean form SSA-44 (https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-44.pdf), the purpose of which is to request a lower Medicare premium amount. I don't believe that you can submit an SSA-44 online. I think you'll need to submit the form and supporting evidence to a Social Security office either in person or by mail.

Will My Son Be Required To File For Benefits On My Record If He Receives SSI?

Hi Larry,
I am 62 years old and I have to retire early for financial reasons.. I would be able to collect $1,773 per month in social security benefits. My wife is 70 years old and receives $525 per month in social security benefits. We have an autistic son who is receiving SSI benefits of $735 per month. I have a few questions. Will my sons SSI automatically terminate when I collect my social security benefits at age 62. Is it mandatory for me or my son to apply for SSDI for him when I retire at age 62 or can he continue to collect his SSI. If me or my son do not apply . . . Read More
