What Do I Need To Do If I'm Receiving Benefits And I Get Married?

I got married last year I have never read much of my mail as far as ssi or disability but I saw that u had to report your married what kind of trouble am I in what do I do

Hi,

If you are receiving Social Security disability benefits based on your own work history, your marriage won't affect your benefits. However, if you are receiving Supplemental Security Income (https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/), your marriage likely will have an impact on your payments, and you are required to report changes in your marital status to Social Security.

I doubt if you'll be in any trouble for not reporting your marriage sooner, but you should report it to Social Security as soon as possible. You can do so in person at the Social Security office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213.

Best, Jerry
