Does This Only Occur In The First Year Of Receiving Benefits?

I agree with the person in the link below, as I have asked the same question as to why social security benefits are one month behind, and the government is stealing billions of dollars over the years from this scam.

I now have proof to support the scam... I began receiving SS benefits at end of Feb 2017 which was for the month of January 2017. I recently received a 1099 form in which the amount equates to receiving only 11 of the 12 payments due for 2017=RECEIVED FEB-DEC 2017, thus, I was not paid for one month.

How Do I Determine If My Son Is Dually Entitled Or Simultaneously Entitled?

Both my husband and I collect social security on our own records starting at FRA in March 2016.
In 2017, my husband collected $2647, and I collected $1002. They had paid me a spousal benefit starting in March 2016 but sent a letter of overpayment in Nov 2016 and now only pay me on my record citing FBM.
My DAC collected social security from March 2016 and collected $732 in 2017 on his own record and the balance of $591 to equal 50%of his fathers benefit. Social security has sent a letter of a large overpayment in Dec 2017 stating my DAC son and I are both dually . . . Read More

Will Social Security Deny My Disability Claim If I File For A Canadian Pension?

I am a Canadian citizen living in the United States who is nearing retirement age. I became disabled and applied for social security benefits approximately six months ago. My disability application was sent to a "totalization" office to ensure it is compliant with the US-Canadian treaty on social benefits. This additional step has resulted in an even longer waiting period to determine whether I am eligible for disability benefits (they estimate two years). In the meantime, I would like to file for my Canadian pension benefits, which I will be eligible to receive in . . . Read More

Do You Have Any Advice For Me?

I am 66 my husband has 56. He is working full-time, and I am thinking of picking up some part-time work. The amount he is earning has put us in a bracket where I will be taxed heavily on the Social Security I have just applied for, as well, my Medicare including the drug supplement part is much higher. We are seriously thinking that divorcing will enable us to keep more of our money out of the hands of the government. I would like to return to work part time but at our current tax rate, it's not even worth it. My Social Security is $2300 per month my husbands annual salary is $ . . . Read More

Would Filing For Spousal Benefits Hurt My Husband's Own Age 70 Benefits?

I could not get a straight answer from the person at Social Security. I am 66 next month and have applied for my SS which is only going to be $400 since I was an at home mom most of my life. My husband is 67 and still working and plans to until age 70 and then apply for his SS. (We missed the old program of file and suspend by a few days). Because I applied I got a call of SS and they suggested that my husband applies and takes half of mine. I kept asking her if he did that then wouldn't that hurt his benefit at age 70. We want to have the full age 70 benefit and not less. She . . . Read More

Is This The Way It Works?

Our 38 yr old daughter has been disabled since birth. She has worked part time for several years and receives SSA based on her own work record. My husband and I just applied for retirement benefits starting in 2 months when he reaches full retirement age (66) and I will be almost 65.. The representative told us that our daughter will now have to get benefits based on my husbands work record. His benefit will be about $2500. I had been hoping to get close to half of his benefit but we were told that the amt will be reduced since our daughter will also be getting benefits on my . . . Read More

When Can I Receive Half Of My Husband's Amount?

I'm 61 and I receive disability social security at $1,000 per month. My husband is 67 and , although not yet collecting, is eligible for $3,000 per month. When can I receive half of his amount?

Hi,

You must be at least age 62 and your husband must be drawing his benefits in order for you to potentially qualify for spousal benefits. However, your spousal benefits will be permanently reduced for age if you start drawing them before your full retirement age.

For example, Sally receives Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) of $1000. When . . . Read More

Did I Use The Correct Wording?

Larry, I will turn 70 on February 1, 2018 and I purchased the "Maximize my Social Security analysis. The collection strategy recommended that I file in Jan 2018 for my retirement benefits.
I started the application process on line and stated in the "Remarks" section that I do not want retroactive benefits but I want my benefit to commence on Feb 1, 2018. Do I have the wording correct or should ask I request to receive my benefit on March 1, 2018?
Also, in the online application I was asked for the last date that I worked. I retired from my employer in 2008; . . . Read More

Can I Receive Widow's Benefits From Both Social Security And My Husband's Federal Employment?

my husband was a Federal Employee, he died 15 years ago since then i have been receiving a widows benefit am i entitled to his social security when i turn 60.

Hi,

I'm sorry for your loss.

The answer is likely yes, assuming that your husband was insured for Social Security. Receipt of a federal civil service survivor annuity would have no adverse affect on your potential Social Security benefits. However, if you start drawing widow's benefits at age 60 as opposed to full retirement age (FRA), your benefit rate will be reduced by 28.5%.

How And When Will My Disability Benefits Be Converted?

I just qualified for disability. I am 62 single with past marriage lasting only 7 Years. How and when will The disability be converted to The as payment?

Hi,

I don't know what you mean by 'The as payment', but if you receive Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) those benefits will automatically convert to regular retirement benefits at the same rate when you reach your full retirement age.

Best, Jerry
