Will My Benefit Rate Change When I Turn 62?

I will be 62 in December i receive SSDI know will my benefit change.

Hi. No. Your Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits will automatically convert to regular Social Security retirement benefits when you reach your full retirement age (FRA), which would be age 66 & 10 months if you were born in 1959. Your benefit rate won't change when that conversion happens.

It is now March 29 and I am still waiting for an answer. I am 58 years old my husband was 60 when he died. How long does this usually take? Ssdi told me their waiting on my doctor reports. Thanks

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. Under the best of circumstances it generally takes at least 60 days to make a disability determination, but I imagine that the pandemic has created backlogs throughout Social . . . Read More

If My Husband Passes Away, Am I Entitled To His Social Security Benefits?

I’m 52 years old. My husband is already collecting SSI at 60 years due to a disability. If he were to pass away I’m I entitled to file for his social security benefits.

Hi. I assume that you mean that your husband is collecting Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits, not Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is a needs based payment, and does not provide for any survivor payments.

You couldn't continue to receive your husband's actual Social Security benefits if he dies, but you might be able to qualify for survivor benefits. In order for . . . Read More

What Benefits Can My Wife And Kids Get If I Die?

What benefit my wife or my kids get from social security if i died

Hi. That depends on your wife and children's ages at the time of your death. Children can potentially receive survivor benefits from a parent's Social Security account if they're either under age 18, or 18 to 19 and attending high school, or at any age if they're unmarried and if they became disabled prior to age 22.

A surviving spouse can potentially receive widow's benefits if they are a) at least age 60, or b) at least age 50 and disabled, or c) if they have an eligible child in . . . Read More

When I Turn Retirement Age Will I Just Continue Getting A Disability Check?

I work close to 30 years and became disabled I was 40 yrs. old. I draw ssi now when I turn retirement age will I just continue getting a disability check or social security check. And will it be lower.
Thank You

Hi. I assume that what you're drawing is Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits. In that case, your SSDI benefits will automatically convert to regular Social Security retirement benefits when you reach your full retirement age (FRA). There won't be any change in your benefit rate when that happens.

Can I Do Anything To Receive More Money?

I started getting ssdi in 1996 my amount I get now is $658.00 a month is it because I didn't work very long and when I did it was $3.69 anhour working at target and Meijer in 96 I got sick with ms can I do anything to receive more .money

Hi. Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits benefits are based on an average of a variable number of a person's highest years of wage-indexed earnings, so the only way that you could potentially increase your SSDI rate is by replacing one or more years of higher earnings. Assuming that's not possible, then you're . . . Read More

Will It Affect My Social Security If I Collect My Deceased Husband's Pension From Italy?

Hello Larry
I like to know if I am able to collect my deceased husbands pension in Italy. And Will it effect the amount I can collect from my personal Social Security benefits ?
Thank you

Hi. My expertise is limited to U.S. Social Security benefits. I can't tell you whether or not you'd qualify for a widow's pension from Italy, but if you do receive a survivor pension from Italy it won't have any effect on your U.S. Social Security benefits.
