Spousal Benefits

How Much Would My Wife Get?

Category:

my birth date 8/14/1952. my spouses birthdate is 3/2/1953
I file for Social Security in August of 2018 but 'suspend' receiving benefits. My spouse( lower income spouse) files for Social Security in March and I request to receive 1/2 of her benefits. I start taking my benefits at 70. What is her Social Security benefit? 1/2 of my benefit when I was 66 and filed but suspended or 1/2 of my benefit when I start taking my benefits at 70?

Hi,

How Much Will I Get For A Spousal Benefit?

Category:

I have been retired from a government job for 2.5 years. I received government pension and reduced social security benefits (abiut $600/month). My husband is not a government worker. When he retires at 66.5, his estimate social security is about $2000. How much will I get for spousal benefit? My guess is $1000-$600 = $400. Please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Can My Spouse Draw Spousal Benefits At FRA Without Me Filing Early?

Category:

I'm 61 and my spouse is 65. Since I'm working and she's not, and I plan on filing at 67 years of age, can she at her FRA of 66 draw half of my benefits without me filing?
I've been told that if her FRA benefit is less than what half of mine is, she can draw half of my FRA benefit without me having to file early.
Thanks in advance for advice and direction

Hi,

Can I Get Spousal Benefits?

Category:

I do not have enough credits to get Social Security benefits. I am 66. Can I get spousal benefits? My husband is also 66 and will work until he is 70.

Hi,

You can't get spousal benefits until your husband starts drawing his benefits. You and your husband may want to strongly consider using our maximization software to compare your options between filing for benefits now vs. waiting until your husband turns age 70.

Can I File For Spousal Benefits Now?

Category:

After not having worked for 20 years, I began drawing my social security benefits at age 62 while my husband began his benefits at FRA. I unexpectedly went back to work at age 64. My husband is also still working. I will be 67 in August. He is 68. May I now file for spousal benefits at this point? I would double my benefit if I were to receive 1/2 of his. Or is there a better scenario for us? Also, are spousal benefits calculated on your benefit before medicare insurance is deducted, or after?

Thanks!!

Hi,

Is What Social Security Told Me Accurate?

Category:

Hi Larry, I will be turning 67 in July, and don't plan on taking SS benefits till 70. My wife has been getting benefits since 62, she turned 67 this past March. I had asked you if I was eligible for SSI and you thought I was for half of her allowance till I make my claim. I am still working and my wife works part time. the SSA office told me I was not eligible because we have a combined income of 80k/ month. Just wanted to check with you to see if this is accurate. Thank you.
