Can I Draw Benefits On My Husband's Record At Age 66?

Category:

I was married previously for 23 years but divorced. My current husband and I were both born in December 1952. We've been married for almost 15 years. I have been on disability based on my earned wages since 2011. At 65 in 2017 I filed for Medicare as required. At age 66 can I and would it be wise to file for SSI against my husbands much higher lifetime income and will I get 1/2 or his full benefit amount? Thank you.

Hi,

Is My Husband Eligible To Collect Half Of My Benefit Amount?

Category:

Full retirement age for both my husband any me is 67. We both started collecting SS last year at that age. My husband's SS amount is less than half of what I receive (I collect $2000, he collects $800). Is he eligible to collect half of my amount ($1000)? If so, when would that start if we went to SS to make the change? Would he have to stop collecting now and wait until age 70 for the higher rate? Thank You!

Hi,

Shouldn't My Sister In Law Be Eligible For Spousal Benefits Even If Her Adopted Children Are Getting Benefits?

Category:

I am asking this question on behalf of my sister in law. She and her husband were foster parents to special needs children and eventually adopted them. Her husband was awarded disability when the children were in their teens. Because the family max disability was reached, my sister in law never received any benefits of her own.. Now these children are adults and still living at home. My sister in law and her husband are over 66 years old which is their maximum retirement age.

Will I Be Eligible For Spousal Benefits When My Wife Files For Her Benefits?

Category:

I have been a homemaker for over 20 years, so my SS benefit is significantly less than that of my wife, our primary breadwinner. If I file for my benefit at age 62, will I then be eligible for a spousal benefit when my wife files at age 70 (I will then be about 67 1/2)? Half of her Full Retirement Benefit is approximately equal to my age 70 benefit.

Hi,

How Will My Spousal Benefit Rate Be Calculated?

Category:

I was born 12-8-1953. I will be able to file a restricted application when I reach my FRA on my husband's benefit. He started his benefits at age 62. Will my spousal be figured on his reduced amount and at what percent or on what would have been his FRA benefit? I have read conflicting statements.

Hi,

If you file just for spousal benefits only effective with the month that you reach full retirement age (FRA), you will receive 50% of your husband's full unreduced retirement age rate (PIA) regardless of at what age he started drawing his benefits.

Will I Be Eligible For A Spousal Benefit If My Son Receives Disability On My Husband's Record?

Category:

Hi. My husband is waiting until his full retirement age before applying, but I have a question. We have an adult disabled child who was deemed disabled before age 22. I have not worked since my son was born and have cared for him full time. I understand he will be eligible for SSDI when my husband retires, but will I also be eligible for a sposal benefit? Also if we are able to receive both SSDI and a sposal benefit, what is the maximum benefit allowed? I ask because this will unfortunately be our only income. My husbands estimated SS at full retirement is $1,850.00.
