Why Is SSA Doing Their Best To Make It DIfficult For People To Apply For Benefits?

This is not a question. It's just a bit of information.

Based on my recent experiences with SSA, the hold time to reach someone is now about 50 to 60 minutes -- and that's after you go through 5 minutes to listening to their messages disclaimers and warnings.. At many times, the phone system won't even allow callers to wait on hold. Instead, callers are told to try again later.

SSA is doing their very best to make it difficult for retirees to apply for benefits.

Thanks for all you do to help people.

Why Hasn't Some Group Filed A Class Action Against Social Security?

I understand we use a pay it forward system where my money is not technically my money, however, even cutting what I put into SS in half (thinking half for widows and orphans and half for me) the amount I have put in to date (I’m 58) with interest calculating yearly bond rates that SS says they invest in comes to $1.3 million.

At the amount they are going to pay me monthly, not even assuming that $1.3M was in an interest bearing account, I would have to live 99 MORE years after 67 to collect it all.

Can A U.S. Resident With A Green Card Collect Spousal Benefits If They Move Outside The U.S.?

Can a US resident with a Green Card collect spousal benefits if he gives up his Green Card and moves to another country like Canada?

Hi,

The answer to your question depends both on your country of citizenship and the country to which you move. You'll need to refer to the following Social Security publication for more information: https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10137.pdf.

Am I Worrying About Nothing?

I'm 67 & took early retirement at 62 with the intent of still working part-time. I had to stop working last Mar. due to health reasons. At that point I qualified for Medicaid(fla.) and snap benefits. I live in a gov't controlled apt. complex. My landlord informed yesterday that I qualified for rental assistance and my rent would be over half what it was. Now I'm facing the possibility of having all or some benefits taken away when I report this. I could be wrong. I couldn't find any info on the SS website. Am I worrying about nothing?
