How Will My Part B Medicare Payments Be Made If Social Security Stops My Checks?

If Social Security states that I earned too much and will now stop my monthly ss checks for a period of time. How will my Part B Medicare payment be made? Can they at least make sure there is enough in the account to pay the Part B premiums?

Hi,

When Social Security suspends a person's benefits in order to recover an overpayment, they normally only withhold the amount due after Part B Medicare premiums are withheld. In other words, the amount credited toward recovery an overpayment is the person's net benefit amount excluding the amount of their Part B premium. So, as long as Social Security is suspending your current benefits to recover a prior overpayment of benefits, then your Medicare premiums should be covered even during the time that your benefits are being withheld to recover the overpayment.

However, if you aren't due any ongoing benefits because of your current or expected future earnings, then Medicare should bill you for any premiums that you owe.

Best, Jerry
