Will My Wife And I Forfeit Our Future Social Security Benefits If We Move Outside Of The U.S.?

Both my wife and I are US Citizens (born and raised). I am 50 years old and have been working as a US Citizen in the United States and meet the 35 year contribution target (as I started part-time when I was 15) but considering making a change in our status and becoming American Nationals residing in the US Virgin Islands and was wondering how that may impact our future social security benefits. Will will we forfeit our social security that was paid into the system by making this change?

Will I Receive An Increase In My SS Or A One Time Stimulus Check?

Thanks for taking my question..

I receive SS, but I am a bit confused on this stimulus check?
Will I receive an increase in my SS for 6 months or will I receive a one time stimulus check or both?
Thanks
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

The economic relief package passed by Congress did not contain any changes to Social Security benefits, so your Social Security benefit rate won't change as a result of that legislation.

Does My Husband Qualify For A Stimulus Check?

My husband gets SSA on the 3rd of every month and I am his payee does he qualify for stimulus check?

Hi,

I'm sorry, but I can only answer questions about Social Security benefits, not stimulus payments. You may want to refer to the IRS's website for information about stimulus payments: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus-tax-relief-and-economic-impact-payments.

Are We Eligible For The Stimulus Check?

My husband and I both receive social security every month. We also get retirement each month. We did not file taxes in 2018 or 2019. Because we receive social security each month are we eligible for the stimulus check. Thanks

What Happens To My SS Benefits If I Win The Lottery?

What happens to my SS benefits if I happen to win the lottery or something like that.

Hi,

Social Security benefits aren't needs based, so lottery winnings would have no adverse effect on your benefits. Lottery winnings are not considered to be earned income, so they would also not count for purposes of Social Security's earnings test (https://www.ssa.gov/planners/retire/whileworking.html).

Do I Get More Money If My Husband Is Deceased?

I'm turning 65 in August my husband is dead do I get more money?

Hi,

I'm sorry for your loss.

You can't get both your own Social Security retirement benefit and a full survivor benefit at the same time. If you file for both you can only be paid the higher of the two benefit rates. However, you could potentially file for one type of benefit first, then file for the other benefit later.
