Thank you.

Thank you. I just filed for my own SS to start at age 70. Since I was born in 1950, when I reached 66 I was able file for my spouse benefit only. I did this using your advice at each stage and everything went smoothly. I will get about $10,000 more each year from age 70 on. Although my husband and I came late to your guidance--he had already taken his SS at age 62--we have benefitted greatly from your advice. We could have done better if he had waited until at least his FRA.

Doesn't Social Security Owe Me Back Payments To 2018?

I applied for benefits in 2018. Social Security lost my paperwork about 3 times and misled me into applying for spousal benefits, which was ultimately denied. Doesn't Social Security owe me back payments all the way back to 2018 when I originally applied? It is not my fault that Social Security lost my paperwork and forced me to go through the lengthy spousal benefits process. Please send me the link to where I should pick up your answer. Thank you so much!

Would My Payment Amount Be Higher If I Was Still Living In New York?

Hi Larry, I wanted to know do the amount of your social security payment varies on which state you Live. Ex I worked in Newyork all my life and moved to Ga . I filled for Social security as a Ga resident. Would my payment have been higher if I was still living in NY.?

Hi,

Absolutely not. Social Security is a federal program and your state of residence is totally irrelevant in determining the amount of your benefit rate. Nor does it matter in which state(s) you worked, nor where you file your application.

If I Receive Funds From A Lawsuit Will It Affect My Benefits?

I am 61 and started collecting spousal benefits this year, I am still working but out of work on FMLA right now, the reason I started collecting benefits is because my health is not that great and I figure it could help with my finances. Before my husband passed away he was involved in a class action law suit. My question is if the funds are to come to me will it affect my spousal benefits?

Hi,

No, income from a lawsuit like you describe would have no effect on your Social Security survivor benefits.

Best, Jerry

Can I Get $1,200 A Month From My Ex-Husband's Social Security Benefits?

Hi Larry, I went through a terrible divorce and my ex-husband took me back to court in 2019 and tryed to get my spousal support stopped, but it didn't go his way and instead he only wanted to half of what I'm suppose to get. I filed a court order to get monthly payments out of his Social Security, only because I don't know if he is working or not and he won't say. If he is working he's getting cash. The court order was certified and signed by the Judge and mailed to Social Security before all this virus hit us. Can I collect from his Social Security?

When Is The Best Time For Me To Start Collecting Benefits?

I am 64 years old and married with two small children. I am well off financially and am wondering when the best time would be to start collecting Soc.Security. My wife is 20 years younger.
Thank you.!

Hi,

I can't make that decision for you, but here are some things to consider. The sooner you start drawing before age 70, the lower your monthly benefit rate will be. And, starting your benefits early could mean lower widow's benefits for your wife.
