Do You Know Of Any Litigators Who'd Be Willing To Challenge SSA On Our Behalf?

My husband and I have been on SS retirement for years. When each of us went to SS and applied for our SS; neither of us was told anything more than that we'd have to be in our mid-80's in order for us to achieve a greater overall payout benefit on our SS retirement--vs early retirement. My husband was a little over one year from full retirement. Spousal benefit and other options were not presented. Based upon SS's information and lack of information--we both took early retirement.

Is There Any Way To Have My Benefits Stopped Immediately?

Help! I have been making calls, getting nowhere with my question. I have been the victim of domestic violence and financial abuse. The abuser is gone now. I receive disability for myself and I receive a survivors benefit amount of money too for my minor child. I have two bank accounts, one for myself and one for him. There was much financial abuse that happened. One account is negative 400 dollars, my son's account is negative 344 dollars. When our money comes in, we will be left with about five hundred dollars. We live in public housing.

Told her I needed explanation would not give me one. I am in dire need to pay my rent, bills, food. Is not following law or POMS MANUAL. SHOULD HAVE NEVER STOPPED. WHAT DO I DO NOW? No one can help me. I am devastated. Thank you..

What Advice Can You Offer Me And My Wife?

I think I need to actually find an consultant for help. I'm a physician; my wife is a college professor (working as an employee of the State of Texas - does not contribute into FICA). Checking back to 2009, we have had a combined income of $300,000 to $425,000 each year. Here's the biggest complication: there's 12 years difference in our ages (my DOB: 7/1951, her DOB: 8/1963). I hope to hear your advice. If you suggest a consultant, I live in East Texas - Longview, Tyler and Texarkana are each about 1 hour away. Dallas is 2 hours away. Thanks in advance for replying to me.

Will My Wife Be Able To Receive Spousal Benefits?

I've been married for 17 years, my wife is not a US citizen, but does have a TIN. She never wanted to live permanently in US, and my thought was we would live in Asia after retirement. She has never worked in US, mostly just visited for months at a time. My question is, will she be eligible for spousal benefits when she turns 62, I'm currently 69 and have filed one year ago. We are now rethinking the issue of where to live and understand she will apply for a green card if the decision is to live in US.

Thank you.

Isn't The Decision On When To File For Benefits Simply A Math Problem Based On Life Expectancy?

Isn't the decision as to what date to claim social security (for me either 66 or 70) really just matter of expected lifespan? If one's family history strongly indicates a lifespan expectation in the early 80's, then when to start social security is just a math exercise, right?

Am I Overlooking Anything?

Hello I have an unusual situation. I am 64 (born Sept 1952) and my husband is 65 (born April 1952). We are married common-law in PA (1990 so grandfathered). He is not working and I plan to retire and start collecting at FRA (Sept 2018). I'm thinking he should start collecting on his record (much lower than mine) at his FRA (April 2018) and then switch to spousal benefits when I start collecting in Sept 2018. I understand the need but the process to prove common-law marriage is ugly (I have no blood relatives).
