What Do I Do Now?

Social Security Field Office in Dade City Stopped my SSDI benefits this July 3, 2017 with no notice per Federal regs or POMS Manual. First time in 17 years. Disabled since 2000. Went to FO service rep. Made me fill out 50 pgs. Of reinstatement paperwork, promised to get me put immediately. I called to check status. She told me not until Aug.2017. Told her I needed explanation would not give me one. I am in dire need to pay my rent, bills, food. Is not following law or POMS MANUAL. SHOULD HAVE NEVER STOPPED. WHAT DO I DO NOW? No one can help me. I am devastated. Thank you..

Hi,

I don't know what options you have because I don't know why your benefits stopped. However, sometimes Social Security can issue emergency payments in cases of dire need, which are referred to as critical case payments (https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0302801001). You may want to re-contact Social Security to see if you qualify for a critical case payment based on dire need. And, you can ask to speak with a supervisor if the first person you speak with says no.

Best, Jerry
