Child Benefits

Why Can't My Granddaughter Get Benefits On Her Parent's Record?

Category:

Thank you for your quick response I just have one question, you said " unless one or both of her parent's are entitled to Social Security benefits on their own record, she can't get child's benefits on their records either". Can I ask why? not on her parents records, were you referring to present time or any time now and in the future?

Hi,

Is My Granddaughter Eligible For Any Benefits?

Category:

I have custody of my 4 year old grand daughter. Are there any benefits I can collect to help with her living expenses. She has also just started receiving Child support from her Father, her mom is in prison for a long time. I am not sure if the child support is her income or mine, and re-portable or not. My SSDI and SSI and the CS total only $1103 per month for the two of us. I am 59 years old and not much of a work history to retire on nor do I have a spouse.

Hi,

Will My Granddaughter Qualify For Social Security Benefits On My Record?

Category:

My Grand daughter has received Social Security since she was young, she is mildly mentally retarded with other issues. She had a daughter which the court took away from her and gave my husband and I full permanent custody. Would she qualify for benefits when I retire next year without adopting her??

Hi,

Unless you adopt your granddaughter, she could only qualify for child's benefits on your record if both of her natural parents are deceased or disabled.

Best, Jerry

Can My Wife And Child Receive Benefits On My Record?

Category:

disability 62 married with a child can they also be put on my ss at 62

Hi,

I'm assuming that you're saying that are age 62 and receiving disability benefits. If that's the case and you have a child who is under age 18, or 18 to 19 and still in high school, or became disabled prior to age 22, your child may be able to receive benefits on your record. And, if your child is under age 16 or disabled, or if your wife is age 62 or older, she may be eligible to receive spousal benefits on your record.

Should My Daughter's Benefit Rate Be Higher?

Category:

Hello. My wife recently died of cancer She had been receiving disability payments from social security as she was no longer able to work due to the cancer. We have a six year old daughter who was also getting payments due to my wife's disability. I went to social security this week; my daughter will now be getting an increase (from 50% to 75%) in her benefit. I am 49 and make almost $90,000 a year so was told that I was over-income to receive any "child in care" payment. I thought I read somewhere that due to my being over-income, my daughter's benefit would increase again.
