Do I Need To Recontact Social Security?

I went to the soc sec office to report a change (someone moved out) and then I was told they were doing a redetermination for my son's SSI. I told them I didnt have the figures in front of me, I was guessing. When I got home and checked my figures were off (low) by about $130 for my sons share Do I have to go back into the ofc and do a new redetermination right away?
Thanks

Hi,

I can't tell from your description whether or not the difference you mention is material. If you think it might have an effect on your son's SSI payments, you will . . . Read More

Will My Disabled Adult Child's Benefits Increase If My Mother Becomes Entitled?

Hi I recieve DAC benefits on my deceased father's record. If my mother were to start collecting on her own record would my benefits increase? I was told yes and no. Most recently told that my benefits only increase if a sibling came off the record not a spouse.
Thank you!

Hi,

I don't have enough information about your situation to be able to answer your question. You can only receive disabled adult child's benefits on one record at a time, so you couldn't get benefits on both your mother's record and your father's record. However, you . . . Read More

Should I Appeal?

Sadly, my husband passed away in 2014. I was on disability at the time of his demise.
My goal was to collect a full widows benefit prior to taking my own FRA at age 70.
My husbands amount was higher than mine.
I was instructed by SS in 2014 to continue my disability, they would add excesss from my husbands to bring me up to his higher amount. Which they did.
They also instructed me to come back prior to turning 66 in 2016 in order to suspend my retirement benefit till 70 to accrue 8% per year and to receive full widows benefit in its place. Then at . . . Read More

Will I Receive My Late Husband's Full Benefit Rate When I Reach FRA?

I started receiving soctal security disability in 2011 at the age of 55. In 2013 my husband, who was 18 years older than me and received approximately $2300 a month in SS passed away. I then applied for widow's benefits as well, which I was entitled to since I became disabled after age 50 but before age 60. The social security lady I spoke with at the time told me I would qualify for my late husband's full social security amount when I turned my personal retirement age of 66 years and 2 months. As I am currently collecting $1312 in disability and $665 in widow's benefits I . . . Read More

Can My Wife File At Age 63 And I Wait Until Age 70?

My wife and I have been married almost 40 years, she is two years younger than I, her birth year is 1960 and mine is 1958. We have both worked but my benefit is larger than hers. Our thoughts are this, she plans to retire at age 63, I will have a small pension that kicks in at my age 65. I want to wait until my age 70 before I claim my benefit, to maximize my monthly amount but also this will provide her a higher monthly amount if I pass first.
First question; can she take her benefit at age 63 and I wait till 70 with no problems?
Second question; Will we receive . . . Read More

Will My Wife's Spousal Benefit Rate Increase If My Retirement Rate Increases?

I have filed and suspended and my wife will file a restricted application to receive only spousal benefits. My question is about recalculation of my FRA benefit. I continue to work and my annual income has resulted in a recalculation and increase in my FRA benefit. After my wife begins receiving her spousal benefit will her spousal benefit also be increased based on the increases in my recalculated FRA benefit?
Thank you.

What Is The Maximum To Pay Into Social Security To Get The Maximum Payout?

what is the maximum to pay in to my social security account to get the maximum payout at age 62

Hi,

Social Security retirement benefits are based on an average of a person's highest 35 years of wage adjusted earnings (https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10070.pdf).
