Will My Benefit Rate Rise When I Reach Age 62?
I recieve social security for having both hips replaced when i gt to 62 will i get a raise because im at the retirement age
Hi,
No, turning age 62 will have no effect on your benefit rate. Qualifying for SSDI essentially entitles you to start receiving the equivalent of your full retirement age (FRA) Social Security benefit early. If you remain eligible for SSDI until you reach FRA, your SSDI benefits simply convert to regular Social Security retirement benefits at the same rate.
If you were to switch from SSDI to regular Social Security . . . Read More

How?
Hi,
My expertise is limited to Social Security benefits only, so I can't answer questions about VA benefits. When you refer to SSI, I assume you mean that you're drawing Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits and not Supplemental Security Income. . . . Read More

Why Would My Friend Have To Repay The Money That Her Parents Received?
my friend was adopted when she was 7 years old...apparently her parents received money for her from social security that she knew nothing about until she applied for her own benefit at age 62 and they told her she would have to repay the money....this seems wrong on so many levels...I have never heard of such a scam....why in the world would she have to repay money they received? thank you.?
Hi,
I assume that your friend qualified for Social Security child's benefits when she was a child. Child benefits can be paid to children on the record of a . . . Read More

Can I Claim My Benefits Retroactive To Age 70 If I'm Now 71?
Greetings to you. I’ve been collecting widow benefits from husband for 3 years. I’ll be 71 9/4/2019 want to apply for my benefits and still working. I was under the impression that I couldn’t get my benefits since I’m still working. I was informed when I went to collect husband’s benefits that I couldn’t collect mine until I retire. I need clarity regarding discontinuing husband’s and applying for mine which is greater. Since I’m maxed out at 70 and I’m 71 could I get retroactive to last September when I was officially 70? Thanks for your time and attention to my question. Have . . . Read More

What Benefits Can I Get At Age 70?
so if i want to retire at 57 what kind of benefits.or help with health insurance i can get
Hi,
Social Security is my only area of expertise, so those are the only benefits I can address. The only way that you could qualify for Social Security benefits based on your own work record prior to age 62 is if you qualify for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits. If you've been continuously disabled since prior to age 22, it's possible that you could qualify for disabled adult child's benefits on a parent's record. Or, if you're disabled and widowed . . . Is It Correct That I Can Switch To Receive My Own Benefits At Age 70?
My wife is a few years older than me and started taking Social Security benefits at full retirement age. A few years later, when I reached full retirement age, I applied to start Social Security benefits too. During the online sign up process I was asked if I wanted "Spousal Benefits". I replied Yes and now get an amount half of what my wife receives.
Here's my question... I assume(?) my benefits are on hold and when I reach 70 I can switch to receive my own benefits at the inflated maximum value and stop receiving the Spousal benefits. Is that correct? Or have I . . . Read More

Should This Be Happening To Me?
I stopped working in 1995 due to cardiac arrhythmias and began receiving SSDI benefits in 1996. In 1999 I had 2 unsuccessful ablations, fast forward to 2009, arrhythmias became worse due to scarring from the previous ablations. Cardiologist I saw told me I would get used to it and as long as I wasn't passing out the best thing I could do is try to ignore it, if I passed out they would try a pacemaker, but some of the arrhythmias (there are 4 different ones at this point) will not be corrected with a pacemaker. Pacemaker would only help when my heart is bradycardic (beating too . . . Read More

Will My Wife Lose Her SSDI When She Reaches Age 65?
My wife is 60 years old, and she is currently receiving Social Security disability benefits including Medicare. When she reaches 65 years old, does she (1) lose her SSDI, and (2) need to apply for regular Medicare? Thank you.
Hi,
No. Unless your wife's Social Security disability (SSDI) benefit entitlement is terminated due to medical improvement, her Medicare coverage will continue until age 65 based on her SSDI entitlement. At age 65, she would be eligible for Medicare even if she no longer qualifies for SSDI, but in that case she would need to . . . Read More

Would My Friend's Wife Still Be Able To Claim Spousal SS If She Gets An STRS Pension?
A friend of mine is 74 and started drawing SS at age 70. His wife is 68, and hasn't drawn SS -- she worked as a teacher and is drawing STRS (State Teacher's Retirement System) which is non-SS covered employment. Has a very small SS entitlement which would probably be wiped out by her teacher's pension.
Would she still be able to claim spousal SS on her husband? Or would that also be reduced by her non-covered pension. Her husband's a doctor and is collecting at or near the maximum rate. I understand her spousal entitlement would be based on his age 66 entitlement.

Would The Fact That I Previously Withdrew An Application Prevent Me From Voluntarily Suspending My Benefits?
I began taking my Social Security benefit in February 2017 at age 63; then withdrew my application in October 2017 at age 64 and fully repaid the benefits since I became employed and did not need the benefit at that time. I am now (August 2019) age 66 and may be laid off later this year. If I start taking my benefits again in December 2019, will I be able to suspend if I become employed again or did the withdrawal and repayment negate my ability to suspend?
Hi,
No, regardless of when you start drawing your benefits you could still voluntarily suspend . . . Read More
