Spousal Benefits

Would I Qualify For Higher Benefits On My New Spouse's Record If I Remarry?

If I remarry after the age of 67 am I eligible for SS benefits based on my 2nd spouses benefit(s) or earnings which are higher than benefits based on my former spouse's earnings.

Hi,

Potentially, yes (https://www.ssa.gov/planners/retire/applying6.html). However, unless you are already drawing benefits on a former spouse's record, you would not be eligible for spousal benefits on your new spouse's record until you have been married for 1 year.

Can My Wife Get Half Of My Benefit Amount When I File?

Howdy, I purchased MMSS program and used it to make my decisions. My wife took her ss at 62. At 66, I filed a restricted application and applied for half of my wife's ss. I plan to apply for my ss at 68 (next year, did not want to wait until 70). Can my spouse then apply for ss based on my work hx and receive half? I assume as a widow she would be able to apply for my full benefit.
thanks,
George

Would My Wife's Survivor Benefits Be Reduced If She Starts Taking Her Own Benefits At Age 62?

My wife is three years younger than I am. She worked for 12 years. My FRA social security benefit will be over 2x hers. I plan to file for retirement at 66, my FRA. My wife plans to file for her benefits at 62 and then when she reaches FRA at 66 1/2 she will file for spousal benefits. Will her survivor benefit be decreased because she filed for her own benefits at 62?

How Much Will I Get When I File For Spousal Benefits?

Hi, I have 2 questions............. I will be 66 in Aug., 2017 and am considering filing a restricted application for spousal benefits. I understand that the spousal benefit is 50% of my husband's PIA, but how do I find out what his PIA is? Will SSA give me an estimate prior to applying? My husband began collecting his benefits at age 62 in 2012 so do I figure out what his PIA is based on the fact that his benefit when he first began receiving is 75% of his PIA?

Does Social Security Owe Me Money?

I would like to know if SS owes me any back money and I will tell you why I believe that this is so. When My husband started to draw his SS and I was making about 500.00 I was told that I would get 50% of his. Well they took my money that I was getting and only paid me the 50% of his which is a 1000.00, so I really should be also getting my SS that I was getting. I know that they play all kinds of games, but that is not right. They basically have shorted me what I was originally receiving. If this is accurate, then how do I get the money that is owed to me.

When Would My Wife Become Eligible For Spousal Benefits?

MY wife is 65 and does not qualify on her own for SSA. I will turn 62 in May. Can my wife collect spousal benefits on my record and does she have to wait until I reach full retirement age?

Hi,

Your wife can't get spousal benefits until you start receiving your benefits, but she can start drawing as soon as you do, even if you take you take reduced benefits prior to your full retirement age.

You may want to consider running the maximization software available on this website in order to determine your best filing strategy.

Should Spousal Benefits Be Suspended If The Worker's Benefits Are Suspended?

We had a client file for her regular benefits at 62 and her spouse file a restricted application at 66, his FRA. Since she has now increased her regular earned income her benefit is being deferred, but now SSI is also deferring his spousal benefit. Is this correct or should we advise them to move their case up the chain of command? We believe he should be entitled to his spousal benefit no matter what happens to her benefit.

Can My Husband Have His Spousal Benefits Directly Deposited To My Checking Account?

I am starting SS. My husband is going to draw spousal benefits. My question- we are doing direct deposit. Can we have it deposited back to my checking account? Or does it have to deposit in his checking account since he is the one filing for spousal benefits. We have separate checking accounts...thank you..

Hi,

Unless I'm mistaken, your husband must be listed as the owner or joint owner of the account to which he has his Social Security payments directly deposited.
