Spousal Benefits

Is Entitlement To Spousal Benefits Automatic?

My boyfriend of 16 years has multiple myeloma he is 63 and is applying for ssa disability. We plan on marrying, I am 56 and already retired. He also will receive a pension from his company. He has an ex wife that he was married to for 30 years. She is retired already and will be 61 this year. I plan on applying for my early SSA benefits at 62. I took the supplemental option from my employer to receive more in my pension and then have it reduced after I apply for SSA at 62.

Will My Husband's Spousal Benefits Stop When I File For Widow's Benefits On My First Husband's Record?

Hi, My husband died in 2008. I have since remarried , my new husband is a new immigrant with no social security record of his own.. I have been collecting my own Social Security since age 62 but intend claiming my deceased husband's social security benefit this year as I will be 66. My new husband receives social security payments based on my SS record (I was 63 when I remarried).. Will his payments cease once I take my deceased husband's SS and if so how does this affect his medicare?
Thank you, Julie

Can I Receive Spousal Benefits And Delay Taking My Own Benefits?

My wife is taking social security for the last two and half years, well before the new law went into effect last year. I am at my retirement age but want to delay my social security benefits. Will it be possible for me to take spousal benefits - half of my wife amount?

2nd Q- May I visit any social security office irrespective of my home zip code?

Can My Wife Claim Benefits On My Record When I Start Drawing?

Hi Larry-this is a follow up question to my recent query (Jan 5th). I'm 66 on Jan 23 2017. My wife filed on her record early (at age 62) in 2008. Assuming I can apply for spousal benefits on her record and can delay collecting on my own record-when I eventually file for SS on my record can my wife then claim a spousal benefit on my record?

Hi,

Potentially yes, but she'll continue to receive her own reduced benefit rate.

Can My Husband Get Half Of My Benefit When I Turn 70?

I will be 70 on Jan. 12 -- I am working part-time and took early Social Security benefits -- my husband turned 63 on 1/1/17 -- he is still working full time although he is in poor health -- someone told us that when I turn 70 he/we can draw 1/2 of what my Social Security is and he can continue working -- is this info. CORRECT?
