Spousal Benefits

Must I Apply For Child In Care Spousal Benefits?

I retired at age at 63 because of my health, though I was not "disabled", my husband the higher earner retired this month at 70. He did accept the lump sum which he invested.
I was advised to apply for spousal benefit.
We also have a disabled adult child who receives ssdi based on work in our family business, though she was disabled from birth.

Was I Misinformed About How Excess Spousal Benefits Are Calculated?

I am 66 (11/50) and my wife is 62 (3/54). I filed at 62 four years ago and she filed this year, also at 62. Since 50%of her PIA is greater than my PIA, I am filing for Excess Spousal Benefits. I was told at the local SSA that all my benefits (including spousal) had been permanently reduced when I filed for my own benefits early and that my spousal benefit would be the same whether I filed in Oct or Nov (the month I turn 66).

If My Primary Insurance Amount Increases, Does My Wife's Spousal Benefit Also Increase?

My wife and are are both age 68. At age 66, I filed and immediately suspended to allow my wife to begin claiming her Spousal benefit. She does not have her own benefit. I continued to work and recently received a notice that my PIA has increased as a result of the continued work increasing the average indexed monthly income. Will this increase in MY PIA (currently being deferred), cause my wife's spousal benefit to get a bump to 1/2 of the FRA PIA?

How Much Will My Wife Get On My Record?

If I take early retirement SS payment of $1800/month. Can my spouse who is also 63 take early retirement payments on my record? If so how , how much will she get?

Thanks

Hi,

Your wife may be able to get spousal benefits when you start drawing, but if she files prior to full retirement age she'll be deemed to have also applied for her own retirement benefits. And, she'll only get roughly the higher of the 2 benefits.

Can My Wife Get An Excess Spousal Benefit After Filing On Her Own Record?

My wife, who is currently 64 (birth date 2/24/52), was going to take her retirement benefit today. She was told by the Social Security office that, if she did this, she would not be eligible for an excess spousal benefit when I applied and took my benefit at age 66 or later (I am currently 62; birth date 1/29/54). I was under the impression that she would get an excess spousal benefit (provided her own benefit at FRA was less than 50% of my benefit at FRA) when I began taking my benefit at age 66 or later.

If I Take Reduced Spousal Benefits, Will The Reduction Be Removed If My Husband Dies?

My husband is 67 and receiving SS Retirement benefits. I am 62. It is my understanding that I can begin receiving a portion of his full benefits now. If I choose to do this, in the event of his death, would my benefits increase to his full amount once I reach age 66?

Should My Spouse File For Benefits?

I just applied for ss benefits..i will be 62 in Jan 2017. My spouse will be 67 in January 2017 and is currently receiving retirement benefits..she got a letter stating she may be able to draw spousal benefits on my account. Is there any benefit to this and how would this affect my benefit?..I have attempted to research this and have only gotten more confused.
