Suspended Spousal Benefits - The Rest Of The Story

I would like to express my sincere thanks to you & Jerry for the excellent advice you provided to a question regarding my right to file for spousal benefits ("Was Social Security Correct To Suspend My Wife's Benefits? - February 18, 2017). My husband filed and suspended just prior to the April 2016 deadline; I filed for spousal benefits in August 2016. Social Security approved, then immediately suspended, my spousal benefits. No one at Social Security could tell me why.

Are Their Spousal Benefits I Can Apply For At Age 60?

I will be 60 in January, 2018. My husband turns 72 next week, July 2017. He has been getting SS since he turned 62, so that we could get child ( under 18 ) benefits for our daughter who went through leukemia. Are there spousal benefits I can apply for at 60 and put off taking my SS until I turn 70? Daughter turned 18 2 years ago and we no longer receive those benefits.
Thank you,
Brooke

Is My Husband Eligible For Spousal Benefits On My Record?

My husband is retired, and it was recommended that he not apply for SS benefits until he's 70 (he's 66) I applied for SS when I was 62 and I was under the impression that when he turned 66 he could apply for spousal under my SS. And then when he turns 70 he can apply for his own, I drop mine and apply for spousal under his (which would considerably more) He called the SS office and they told him he could be denied benefits under mine because he could apply for his own and get more. I'm very confused, can they deny him spousal benefits if he hasn't applied for his own yet?

Can My Wife File For Spousal Benefits Before I File For My Benefits?

Dr. Kotlikoff,

Today, I finished reading your updated book, Get What's Your's from Social Security. I was looking for information about filing a Restricted Application. I kinda threw in the towel on doing anything other than my wife and I each filing at age 66 after the File and Suspend option went away for us. After reading page 82 of your book, and several other pages, it seems we may be eligible to do something similar with a Restricted Application. Here are our data:

Can I Receive Spousal Benefits Even If I'm Already Drawing On My Own Record?

I started collecting my SS benefit at age 62 which was in 2015. My husband has just turned 66 and has filed for his SS benefit. He is currently working and is planning to continue until he's 70. From what I have read, he will get his full benefit because he is 66. My question is even though I am collecting my benefits, can I also collect on his? His has a much larger benefit than mine and financially could use the extra money. If so, will my benefit go back to my original lower amount when I turn 70?
