Spousal Benefits

Can Someone Who Reaches FRA In February 2018 File A Restricted Application For Spousal Benefits Only?

Husband is FRA as of May 2017 and wants to file and suspend. Higher earning spouse is now retired and will be FRA in February 2018. Used your software but cannot figure out if wife can file a restricted application for spousal benefits in February 2018.
Thanks

Can My Wife File A Restricted Application For Spousal Benefits If We Are Legally Separated?

My wife and I have been married over 40 years and continue to live together. For asset protection reasons, on the advice of our attorney, we are "legally separated.
My wife is turning age 66 (FRA) and I am 71 collecting SS.

Can we file for restricted application for spousal benefits since we are legally separated?

Do Spousal Benefits Increase If You Start Drawing Them After FRA?

I plan to delay taking SSA benefits until age (70) in order to maximize the benefit. Will my wife's Spousal Benefit increase after her FRA, or does it remain at 50% of my FRA at 66? If the latter is the case, I imagine it's best to file along with my wife at her FRA and then suspend my benefit until age 70? She reaches FRA in Feb 2018 and I have reached it already. Thank you.

When Can My Wife Start Receiving Spousal Benefits?

Larry, I am 64 and receiving disability benefits of $1475.00 less $105.00 = $1370.00 monthly, and my wife is 62 now and turning 63 this year. How long before (what age) she can go to the well herself in claiming survivor benefits, i.e. half of what I'm receiving? And in the event of my death would she be bumped up to what I receive?
I'm retired military and do not have survivor's benefits for her other than medical and other privileges - nothing financial coming in other social security. Please advise @ your earliest. Thanks, Leo - Marine veteran...

Can My Wife Qualify For Spousal Benefits Before I'm Eligible For Benefits?

My wife is 9 years older than me and of course will qualify for social security before me. Is there any way she can receive a spousal benefit even though I am still working and not eligible to file for social security benefits?

Hi,

No, you must be drawing either retirement or disability benefits in order for your wife to be potentially eligible for spousal benefits.

Best, Jerry

Can My Fiancee Get Benefits On My Record If We Marry?

I'm 64 and a divorced high earner. Still working. Fiancee is 56 and a lower earner but divorced and was married to a high earner for more than 10 years (he is her age). If we marry, I understand she loses her claim to collect benefits on her ex's earning record when she retires at 62. But would she be entitled to collect benefits on my high earning record? Her fear is if she remarries she loses her claim to her ex's high earning record and is stuck with her lower earning record if we marry.

Will My Wife's Spousal Benefit Rate Increase If My Retirement Rate Increases?

I have filed and suspended and my wife will file a restricted application to receive only spousal benefits. My question is about recalculation of my FRA benefit. I continue to work and my annual income has resulted in a recalculation and increase in my FRA benefit. After my wife begins receiving her spousal benefit will her spousal benefit also be increased based on the increases in my recalculated FRA benefit?
Thank you.
