I purchased your book several years ago...and LOVE it - tagged many pages...and refer to it (and to others) often...it's become my SS bible. Sadly, though, I'm unable to find a definitive answer to what I consider a very simple question...so, I write to ask your help. I turn 70 in Feb 2021 and plan to begin drawing SS around that time. We maintain a family HSA (hi-D eligible) through my husband's employer. We make our own direct contributions and declare them on our yearly tax returns).

Hi Larry. Bought and read your "Get What's Yours" in 2015 to plan for our S.S. . Wife, lower wage earner, started her benefit early @62 in 2019. I was age 66 on 5Dec2019. I submitted a restricted application for spousal benefits only on 13Dec2020.-Letter from S.S. confirms spousal benefit only and want to delay mine until later. Started getting that payment in Jan2020.

My husband died sept 5. It is my understanding that the check we got on the second weds of Sept was for AUG. if so social security would not take those funds back. But we would not get a check in October for Sept. is that correct?

The only way that your divorced spousal benefits could be affected by your ex-husband being deported is if you are not a U.S. citizen and if you are outside of the U.S. (https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0302635001#d).
