Can You Tell Me Why I Received An Extra Payment From Social Security?

I received an extra $400,00 in my account on Tuesday from Social Security office, its something I did not expect, I did not receive an explanation. Can you tell me what is going on?

Hi,

Sorry, but no I can't. There could be a number of different reasons for getting an extra one-time payment from Social Security, and I don't have enough information about your circumstances to know why you would have received one. Whenever Social Security does send someone a payment other than their regular monthly payment, they send a notice in the mail to explain the payment. However, since electronic transfers are faster than the mail, the notices can be received up to 2 weeks after the payment is delivered. If you don't receive a notice within 2 weeks, you'll probably need to call Social Security to get an explanation for the payment.

Best, Jerry
