Do You Know Of Anything That Can Help Us?

I was inquiring about low disability payments and came actually your article. I worked diligently my entire life and participate in my community everyday for years before aging into the work force. Which I then continued to support my community. I have an extended education which I received by also working full time. My career was in self employment and as a reward to self employed the Government made a huge list of write offs in lure of no medical, retirement, sick or vacation leave. Of course we are going to use these write offs! They are legal.

How Can Social Security Just Stop Paying Spousal Support?

I was born Sep 20, 1953 and had been receiving spousal support from social Security for a few years. Sep 2020 I applied for full Social Security. In Nov 2020 I cancelled my application and requested to continue Spousal Support. In January I received a letter from Social Security saying all payments were cancelled. I did not start full Social Security and because I cancelled this request spousal support was eliminated and I was told it could not be restarted. I thought I was grandfathered in. How can they just stop paying spousal support?

Why Were Our U.S. And Canadian Benefits Reduced As Of January 2021?

Why was my CPP and OAS reduced as of January 2021 - my husband was also reduced.

Hi,

My expertise is limited to U.S. Social Security benefits, and there haven't been any regulatory changes that would explain a decrease in your U.S. benefits. Social Security generally sends a notice in the mail explaining any changes in a person's benefit rate, but if you don't get a notice you'll probably need to call Social Security to ask for an explanation.

Best, Jerry

What Happens To My SSDI Benefits If I Can't Return To The U.S.?

Hi Larry
I am a green card resident of over 30 years. I travelled to UK and Spain and went into lockdown and embassies wereclosed. I tried to return but I was two weeks over a year and they wouldn't let me on the plane.
I am on SSDI and can't live without that income.
It says on SSA that you can receive benefits abroad as a permanent resident. What happens if I can't get back to my SSDI? How and when will they stop it? What options do I have to replace it if they do with retirement? I am almost 62 and so is my spouse.

Thank you

Will My Husband's Pension Affect My Social Security Benefits?

I am 62 left my job in 2020 due to Covid. I did not apply for SS benefits because I thought I could get a part time job. It is now 5 months later and no on will hire me....so I was thinking about applying for my benefits this year in 2021. My husband receives a pension aprox 60,000/ yr. will that affect my benefits at all? Thank You

Hi. No, your husband's pension wouldn't have any bearing on your ability to collect your Social Security benefits.
