I turned 65 this year. I was unable to apply for my benefits of Medicare and my monthly check (due to contracting Covid). I finally got signed up. My question is, do my SS payments go retro to my birthday or do they start from when I apply?

I need to know my ex husbands death date to update MY social security information. How do I find this information?

Dear Larry, I am a 78 year old divorced female. I went on SSDI in 1999, permanently disabled due to a mental health condition. At age 65 my SSDI turned into retirement. I am planning on continuing my education, and begin working in the future. My question is, What happens to the amount of social security retirement that I get monthly if I begin making money? Are there any limits as to how much money I am able to earn on a monthly basis? Do I need to contact SSA if I begin earning money?

My mother passed away several years ago. At that point my parents were already divorced (but had been married for more than 10 years). At the time I checked and my father was eligible for half her SS benefits.

Got kinda scared after that,that I'd lose my benefits. If my Husband uses his Tax ID # for my new Fb Bussiness page/Shop,will I lose my benefits. Still using my name on page,shop? Ty

While receiving a small spousal benefit, I applied for my maximum benefit in December 2020. With my 70th birthday in March 2021, I expected my first benefit payment to being in April. Nothing was received untill June. I can not get the underpayment due for April and May. Any suggestions on how to rectify other than phoning my local SS office. Dan

Hello! Not to be indelicate, but how do I know if my ex-husband has passed away? I assumed Social Security would tell ME. (I can supply his full name, DOB, and SS#.)

But in Get What’s Yours (p. 240, revised edition) Larry writes that SS doesn’t know whether your ex-spouse died. “You must tell the agency.”

I am 67, my ex is 65, and we were married for 13 years. We’ve been divorced 20+ years and I never remarried. We have no children together and no mutual friends, and live in different parts of the country—in other words, no contact.

I turned 62 in May and took early retirement. I worked until May. I got my first SS check in July. I have now changed my mind about retiring and want to return to work. IThis is September so I will get one more check. I read I have to repay my benefits I have take, can I do this in payments?

My wife will be 66 and 2 months in December 2021, her FRA, but we want to wait to age 70 to draw Social Security. Do we need to tell them we want to wait or will they mail us something so we can elect to wait? Thank you Sir.
