Divorced Spousal Benefits

Could I Get Divorced Spousal Benefits On My First Spouse If I Divorce Again?

I got a divorce from my first wife after thirty three years. She worked most of that time. I remarried two years later and have been married for almost 10 1/2 years. If I get a divorce from my second wife, can I collect social security from my first wife? I am sixty eight years old.

Thank you.

Can I Collect On My Former Husband's Record?

I was born in Feb 1952. My former husband was born in July 1952. We were married for more than 10 years. He is still living. I have not applied for social security. Please know that my age 66 retirement benefit would be greater than the "half benefit" I would receive by collecting on my former husband. When I reach my full retirement age of 66 in Feb 2018, I would like to begin collecting on my former husband. Should I wait until my former husband reaches full retirement age in July 2018 rather than start collecting in Feb 2018?

What Kind Of Benefits Can I Receive?

I was born in 1959, my ex-husband of 19 years was born in 1955 and I don't know when he plans to start collecting his Social Security. My present husband was born in 1964 but is now on permanent disability and receives SSDI. I have been a mostly "stay at home wife and mother" so my benefits will be minimal. My ex-husband has worked consistently for most of his life paying into his SS, my present husband had not paid into his SS as much. Lastly, aside from SS my ex dropped out of the Navy after 17 years which we were married through that entire time. He also remarried.

Am I Able To Get Divorced Spouse's Benefits?

I was married 3 times. 1st marriage for 4 years, 2nd marriage for 24 years, and 3rd marriage for 8.5 months. I am not married, 61 years old, thinking about getting Social Security at 62. Am I able to get divorced spouse benefits from 2nd husband, if that amount should be more than mine? Thank you very much! Am reading your book, and still a tad confused! Mary ps should I change my last name back to my 2nd husbands to make it easier for SS?

How Do I Restrict My Application To Divorced Spousal Benefits Only?

Divorced Spousal Benefit: I will reach FRA in July 2017 (born 1951). Ex-spouse is same age. Divorced for more than two years. Married for more than 10 years. Never remarried. I intend to filed for Divorced Spousal Benefits, and to not claim benefits on my record until age 70. I have seen your various comments about the notations to make in the Remarks section, but still have some uncertainty. Questions: 1) Does application make it crystal clear that I am "suspending" my benefits? 2) Our incomes were about the same, over the same working years. Does this affect my eligibility?

How Much Will I Receive As A Divorced Spouse?

Hi Larry,
I'm 56, and my x-spouse is 69 (soon to turn 70). We were married for 22 years and have been divorced since 2012.
I have read that I can receive his social security benefits , but am still confused about a couple of things, which are critical (recognize that my social security benefits will be much less than his, whether it is calculated from 50% or 100% of his amount due.
Here are the details, and the questions:

Can My Ex-Spouse Get Benefits On My Record?

Hi,
My ex-husband is 67 and begin collecting Social Security at age 62. He has never remarried. I am 62 and have not begun to collect. My FRA benefit is significantly larger than his. Can he reapply for ex-spousal benefits to receive a higher amount? If so would in be 50% of my FRA benefit?
We were married for 24 years and have been divorced for 17.

Thank you
