Non-Covered Pension - WEP / GPO

Will My SS Benefits Be Reduced By WEP If I Get Part Of My Husband's Pension

My husband and I are getting divorced. He will receive a teacher's pension (non contributing to SS) when he retires, and as part of our settlement, I will also receive part of the pension. I have my own SS benefits, as I have worked in traditional jobs and paid into SS. He also worked for about 10 years in the corporate world and paid into SS. I understand that his SS benefits will be reduced because of WEP. My question is - will MY SS benefits that I earned on my own be subject to WEP also, because I will be receiving part of his pension when he retires?

Will Either Of My Pensions Affect The Other?

I am 63 years old. I grew up and worked in Peru until I was 44 years old. I moved to the US in 2001 and have earned the 40 credits needed. Since I moved to the US I’ve continued contributing to the Peruvian Social Security as in independent contractor.
Now, due to a work related injury I became disabled and I want to apply for Social Security disability.
Would one pension affect the other?

Does WEP Or GPO Apply In My Case?

I will be applying for social security benefits on my ex-spouse’s record at 67 years of age. My ex-spouse will then be age 62. I receive a small Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefit ($460 Cnd.) which I took at age 60 and will defer my Old Age Pension (OAS) until age 67. I will “buy in” to Medicare between ages 65-67. I will not have enough credits to apply on my own record.

QUESTION: As I am not applying on my own record, does WEP or GPO apply in my case?

Thank you!
