Supplemental Security Income

Am I Required To File For Divorced Spousal Benefits When I Become Eligible?

I am 48 and single. I was previously married for 18 years and divorced. I now receive SSI benefits due to seizures and some other things. I would like to know if I MUST report to Social Security when my ex is of retirement age and how I can find out what my benefit would be from his work record so I will know (kind of) what my benefit would be.

Can I Get SSI After Age 65 If I Become Disabled?

can I get SSI after 65 and drawing social security if I become disabled ?

Hi,

If you're age 65 or older, you don't need to be disabled to qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is a needs based program administered by Social Security. However, you must meet all of the other requirements in order to qualify. For more information, refer to Social Security's website: https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/.

Am I Eligible For Supplemental Security Income?

While my husband was under hospice care i went thru the application process for myself to get SSI for my disabilities. SSA deemed me disabled by their requirements but was told that i could not collect any benefits and/or medical care myself for the disabilities bcuz i was married. Now since the passing of my spouse i receive widows benefits as well as survivors benefits for the two minor children still at home which is divided between the three of us equally according to husbands maximum family benefit amount.

Will My Grandchild's SSI Increase If She Has More Than One Disabling Condition?

My grandchild receives SSI disability for aniridia she is 7 years old. if she is now diagnosed with autism will her SSI disability check be increased?

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about your granddaughter's health problems.

The answer to your question is no. The diagnosis of an additional impairment(s) would not cause her SSI payment amount to increase.

Can A Person Collect SSI At Age 63 If They Own A Home?

Can a person collect ssi at age 63 when owning a home

Hi,

Ownership of a home in which they live does not disqualify a person from receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), however, they must be at least age 65, or blind or disabled, in order to be eligible. For more information on SSI, see the following reference: https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/.

Am I Required To Take Social Security Benefits Instead Of SSI?

SS recently took me off SSI because I turned 62, and placed me on spousal support. Now, I got a letter from the State saying I would also not be entitled to any state SSI, and, they told me I may loose my Medicaid as well. Was this a mandatory thing or SS rules that they had to take me off the SSI and put me on spousal support ? I asked them if this would affect anything else-like my Medicaid- and they said "oh no, you'll still be considered disabled." It doesn't appear that way to me.

Why Did My Disability Benefits Stop?

I had a Stroke when I was 59 years old. The supplimentle Security sent me to a docter and the docter deemed me to be disabled. They paid me $750 per month. I gave the V.A. the docters report and they paid me $1075 per month. When the Security found that the V.A. was paying me this they dropped my disability. I could not live on the V.A. benifit, so when I turned 62 I filed for S.S.I. and they pay me $580 per month.
So how come the disability was dropped because I'm a Veteran?
