Will I Still Be Eligible For Social Security?

I have several questions that I am hoping you can help me with. Just a little history. Our daughter was born with a large facial tumor on her nose and upper lip called a hemangioma. She is 22 and has had 11 surgeries to date. She was also born with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis which seems to be in remission. Eight years ago she was diagnosed with OCD and anxiety which we have managed with therapy and no medication. I gave up my career to care for her and we have struggled to make ends meet.

Can My Husband File For Spousal Benefits Only At Age 66 And Let His Own Rate Grow Until Age 70?

I am impressed with your prompt answers here..thank you.. Confusion on my part- I will be drawing SS at 65. Can my husband apply for restricted Spousal benefits at his FRA- and let his grow to 70? Irregardless of what our own benefits figure out to be?? Or are their stipulations to this? We both fall into the cut off date before 1954.

Could My Wife Draw Spousal Benefits At Age 62 And Let Her Own Benefits Grow Until Age 70?

Hi Larry. Thanks for your interest in providing support for complex Social Security questions. My fiancee is 61. She was married over ten years and still working. I am 64, a widower, and collecting Social Security Survivors benefits. We are planning on getting married. It is my understanding that my fiancee will lose the ability to collect Social Security benefits on her ex spouse if we get married, unless we later get divorced.

When Can My Husband Collect Spousal Benefits?

My husband is 4 years younger than I and earns about $45,000 /yr gross. I just turned 63. I work for local government and will probably not get much SSN if anything under WEP since I make $109,000 gross when I retire early next year. My estimated SS payout will be about $1300 at my age 65. Right now its about $700. I'd like my husband to start collecting spousal social security from my acct asap. What do I have to do so he can collect? And when is he eligible to collect from my acct? I'd like him to leave his alone till age 70.

Can My Husband File For Spousal Benefits Only At FRA Even If I Take My Benefits Early?

I am 65 and so is my husband. I will reach full retirement age in December 2017. Neither of us has filled yet for Social Security. We want for me to file for my own and for my husband to file a restricted application for a spousal benefit based on my benefit. (so he can let his benefit grow until he is 70)Can we do that if I file about 4 months early (reducing my benefit by about 2% I think) or do I have to wait until my full retirement age for him to be eligible (He will be FRA when he files)?

Should I File For Benefits On My Own Record Now?

Hi Larry,

My three questions concern whether my husband and I will be negatively impacted by employing the following strategies.

I am 64 years old and have always been a low income earner. My estimated benefit at age 66, which is not likely to rise, will be a little less than half of my husband’s benefit at his present age of 66. He just turned 66 and plans to wait until at least 68 to receive his.

What Is Best For Us?

I plan on taking my SSA this year when I reach FRA. My wife will only be 63. If she starts taking her SSA now what are the pluses and minuses of that . Will her SSA increase when she does rech FRA? What is the best way to handle this ?

Hi,

If your wife starts drawing benefits at age 63, her benefits will be reduced by around 20% to 25% depending on whether she's eligible on her own record or for spousal benefits. And, the reduction would not go away when she reaches full retirement age.

How Should I File At Age 65 And Provide For Spousal Benefits?

I intended to file and suspend at 66 but circumstances have changed with the new regulations. I am going tp take my SS at 65 in May 2017. My wife will terminate her employment in August 2017. In lieu of the change in file and suspend option, how should I file at 65 and incorporate my spouse's availability at 65 to claim benefits?

You are the best and I appreciate you support and input.

Thank you.

Gary
