Filing For Benefits

Should I File Online Or In Person?

Hi Larry, I will be turning 66 at the beginning of August and plan on filing for retirement coverage shortly, to commence in August. We have 2 kids under 18, so I will also be filing for child benefits for them, also to start in August. After reading all the horror stories in your excellent book about filing over the phone or even at the local SSA office, I was planning to file online for my benefits. However, I saw that child benefits cannot be applied for online, so should I apply for all 3 of us in person at the local SSA office so they get processed as a group?

How Do I Go About Filing For WIdow's Benefits Without Touching My Benefits Until Age 70?

Hi Larry, I purchased your program last year and haven’t done a thing with it. I went to the social security office and became very confused and disappointed because I was told totally different from what I read in your book. I am 61 soon to be 62 in August. I thought I was going to get a job but no such luck. My current monthly income is $1300 my expenses $3500. Very sad to say I’m sinking fast. I was told by Social Security personnel I would be entitled to $1800 from husbands benefits.

When Should I File For Benefits?

I'll turn 70 on September 16, 2019; my wife is 65 as of April 14, 1954. When should I file for benefits? June 2019 or July 2019? Should my wife file for Spousal benefits on April 2020 (she makes about $12K). I have enough credits for benefits. Thank you Larry...
P.S. I have your "How to Maximize your Social Security" book but I believe I'm misreading it.

Am I Filing Too Early?

I have an appt with SSA to file for benefits on April 29, 2019. I will be 70 on August 5, 2019, and don't want to my benefits to start until I am 70. Will I be filing too early if I do it on April 29?
Also I am subject to WEP so it is more complicated than most. I am going to buy your software so I am informed when I go in for my appt. If the numbers your software give me are different than the numbers they give me as to my benefit amount, how do I resolve this?

How Do I Delete An Online Application?

How do I delete an online application for social security benefits which I did not finish nor do I want to finish it? There was no option to delete the application online.

Hi,

As far as I know, you can't delete an online application that you've started. If you decide not to apply, just be sure NOT to electronically sign and submit your application. Your partial application will then remain in Social Security's database so that you can resume the application at a later date if you change your mind.

Best, Jerry
