Earnings Test

Does Social Security Use The $17040 Exempt Amount AND Hours Worked If You're Self Employed?

Earnings Test: Are they using earning exempt amount of $17,040, AND hours worked if you are a self employed 1099, even if you made under the earnings limit of $17,040 so far in 2018 ? Like you mentioned I believe Earning limit only test if below $17,040. Why is there so much mis information out there ? They never mention where they found this self employment rule. I think this is the rule which applies if you are over $17,040 , not under.

Does Social Security Use The Gross Amount Of My Earnings Or The Amount That Gets Deposited?

I will be over the max i can earn in 2018 ( prior to 66th birthday in march 2019). are they going to take it all out at once? if so that means i won't get any social security payment for two months. And do they use the "Gross" or the amount i actually get deposited?

How Should I Respond To SSA's Earnings Estimate Form?

Subject: Earning Test : First year Retired at 62 for a 1099 contractor for limo/van car service driver
Earning Test quagmire and how to respond to the SSA form "Earnings Estimate Form SSA-L9781-SM"

IN 2018 I turned 62 in July 29 2018... I am retired as of AUG 1 2018.
I had to work during Aug Sep to make ends not meet. But I still made less than the 17040 for NET EARNINGS.

Will My Friend Still Be Limited On How Much She Can Work Once She Reaches Full Retirement Age?

I am asking for a friend. She is claiming a widow's benefit (over her own) - she started claiming it in Feb of 2017 which she was 61 (she turned 62 in March 2017). She is not US citizen and resides in Germany. So far so good - but there seems to be some questions about income - there seems to be a rule that she can not work more than 45 hours per month. (Which she does not) but the question is that once she reached the retirement age that whatever income she makes should not matter - she never makes more than 10 to 12,000.

Is The Social Security Earnings Limit Broken Down Monthly?

I can earn 17,000.00 extra in 2018 without affecting my Social Security amount. Is that broken down monthly or for year affecting my monthly Social Security

Hi,

If you're drawing reduced Social Security benefits and you'll be under age 66 throughout 2018, you could earn up to $17,040 during the 2018 calendar year (i.e. January 1 through December 31) without losing any of your Social Security benefits. As long as your earnings don't exceed $17,040 for the calendar year, it doesn't matter how much you earn in any given month.

Does Social Security's Income Capping Go Away When I Reach My Full Retirement Age?

Hi Larry et al...!
For completely unexpected chronic unemployment and health reasons, I started taking Social Security Benefits at age 62 years old. As expected, any income earned during from age 62+ was capped at around $15k-$16k per year. Does this income capping go away when I reach my full retirement age of 66 years old?
Many thanks, in advance, for your time and consideration!
Best Regards,
LEE

Do I Need To Ask SSA To Use The Annual Earnings Test Instead Of The Monthly Test?

Hi, I have a question about the Earnings Test. I will be 63 this year and plan to have my SS retirement benefits start Jan 1 2019. I also plan on working part time starting Jan 2019 and expect to have varying months of income but totally around 16,000 for 2019, probably under the 2019 annual earnings limit. Will SSA use either the monthly or annual earnings test for my first benefit/grace year. Do I have to request SSA use the annual earnings test when I first apply or do they choose? Thank you in advance for your help!

Am I Limited To The 15 Hour Rule Or The 45 Hour Per Month Rule?

I'm taking my SS @62, I'm a licensed insurance agent but have not been active in several years.Ive been offered an independent contractor job with a company, but all earnings are 1099. My question is, Am I limited to the 15 hour rule or 45 hours per month Rule? Is this occupation considered "substantial services" I will be cold calling on small businesses.
