Would A Social Security Pension Affect My DIC Widow's Pension?

Question #! I receive a DIC widows pension. Would social security pension affect it?

Question #2 I have macular degeneration and I have seen changes in my vision. How do I go about filing for disability? Would it also affect my DIC pension?

Thank you,

Hi,

I wish that I could fully answer your question, but I'm not familiar with the rules governing DIC widow's benefits. Assuming that the benefits you're receiving are paid by the Veteran's Administration, you'll need to check with them to find out if receiving Social Security benefits would affect your benefits. All I can tell you for sure is that your DIC widow's benefits wouldn't have any adverse affect on any type of Social Security benefits for which you may qualify.

You don't mention your age or work history, so I can't tell you whether or not you may be eligible for Social Security benefits. You may be able to apply online for Social Security disability (SSDI) or retirement benefits based on your own earnings (https://secure.ssa.gov/iClaim/dib), but to file for any other types of disability benefits administered by Social Security you'd need to call Social Security at 800-772.1213.

Best, Jerry
