Would Social Security Contact Me For More Information After I Submit My Online Disability Claim?

Due to COVID I can only apply for social security disability using on-line form. It does not appear that the on-line form allows adding additional page to the remarks section. I have seen a lot of doctors about 12 regarding my illnesses and would quickly run out out of allotted space on this on-line form. Would Social Security contact me after I submit the application to obtain the additional doctor's names? Can I also somehow submit medical records myself (as I have them from my personal injury claim) to SSA -- as I understand that often SSA gives up on getting the medical records themselves from non-responsive doctors and would simply deny the claim for the lack of information.

Hi,

Disability claims were only added as an online option by Social Security within the last few years, and I'm really not familiar with the details of that process. If you have additional medical sources to add that you can't fit on the forms, about all you can do is add a remark to that effect and ask to be contacted for more information. You could submit copies of your medical records to your nearest Social Security office by mail, but getting them associated with your claim may be problematic. If you do submit your records, you'll need to clearly mark them with your name, address and Social Security number.

Even with COVID closures, as far as I know you can still file for disability benefits by phone. Using that process, you would speak with a Social Security representative who would take the information about your medical history. You could then make arrangements with the representative regarding your medical records.

Best, Jerry
