Would Social Security Be Able To Tell Me If My Mother Earned More Credits Than My Father?

Hello Larry,

Would Social Security be able to tell me, who has more earned work credits( my deceased father or mother) for SSDI? I have been disabled since birth and have been drawing off my own earnings, SSI and my later father's. My mom passed in 1999 and my dad in 1994. She worked longer than my dad. I don't have my late mom's SSN.

Thanks,

Terry

Hi Terry,

Social Security should be able to tell you if you could be entitled to a higher benefit rate on your mother's record, but they will need her Social Security number. If you have her death certificate, it would probably be listed on that. Otherwise, Social Security should be able to find it based on information that you can furnish to them (e.g. birth date, maiden name, etc.).

Best, Jerry
