Will Our Claim Get Processed Without My Grandmother's SSN?

My father passed, and is owed his final payment. It's his ONLY asset. I am completing SSA-1724 - and listing all 4 children. However, his mother (100 years old) is still alive. She is unwilling to give me her SSN to complete the form. Will it get processed without her SSN?

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. Yes, I think so. Assuming that your grandmother isn't eligible for a parent's benefit on your father's account, then his children would be higher than his mother on the priority list for payment of the underpayment. So, I don't think not having your grandmother's Social Security number will delay the processing of your underpayment claim.

Best, Jerry
