Will My Tax Exempt VA Pension Affect My Fiancee's SSI If We Get Married?

I am a retired Veteran and get a VA pension based on my disability. The rate I get is the 100% individual unemployability. ($3,535 per mont). I thinking about getting married. My fiance has SSI. Will my tax exempt VA pension effect her SSI income when we get married? When I start getting my retirement will that a income effect her SSI when we are married?

Hi. Yes. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs based program, and the income and resources of a person's spouse with whom they live is factored in when determining how much if any SSI benefits a person is eligible for. You might want to use the screening tool on the following website to try to determine exactly how much your income and resources would affect your fianee's SSI: https://ssabest.benefits.gov/.
