Ask Larry

Will My SSD Turn Into SSI Once I Turn 62?

Hi Larry; I turn 62 on 8/20/2020, I now receive SSD, will my SSD, turn over to SSI once I turn 62. Would appreciate your
Assistance. Sincerely

Hi,

No, your Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits won't change as a result of your reaching age 62. You can continue receiving SSDI benefits until you reach full retirement age (FRA), at which time your SSDI will convert to a regular Social Security retirement benefit at the benefit rate as your SSDI.

Best, Jerry
