Will My SS Retirement Be Affected By My PERA Retirement?

will S.S.I retirement be affected by pera retirement. I contributed to S.Security for over 30 years.

Hi,

Possibly. If you receive a pension based on your work and earnings that were exempt from Social Security taxes, then your Social Security retirement or disability benefits could be reduced due to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). However, if you have at least 30 years of 'substantial' Social Security covered earnings, you would be exempt from any WEP reduction. For information on WEP and a list of the yearly earnings amounts needed to be considered as 'substantial', refer to the following Social Security publication: https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10045.pdf.

Best, Jerry
