Will My Payment Date Still Be The Same?

I started to draw my SS in 2007 and now get my check on 3rd of every month. Will My pmt date still be same? Thanks in advance for your information.

Hi. I don't know. All I can tell you is that the rules regarding when a person should be paid their monthly benefits haven't changed since 1997. Based on those rules, most people are now paid either on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, or the 3rd or 4th Wednesday depending on their day of birth (https://www.ssa.gov/kc/rp_paybenefits.htm). The only people who should still be receiving their benefit payments on the 3rd day of the month are people who were already receiving benefits prior to May 1997, or beneficiaries who are living outside of the country, or people who are eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

So, if you started drawing benefits in 2007 and unless you are drawing SSI payments or you're living outside of the U.S., then I don't know why you've been getting paid on the 3rd of the month. If you've been getting paid on the wrong day, then I suppose it's possible that Social Security may now be correcting their error.

Best, Jerry
