Will My Payment Date Change?

I've been getting my ssi payments on the 3rd day of the month. Will that payment date change? From what i've read as long as I'm over 65 (71 here) there shouldn't be a payment date change wondering how correct that is.

Hi. There haven't been any changes in Social Security's regulations regarding payment dates since 1997, so I don't know of any reason why your payment date would be changing.

Based on the regulations passed by Congress in 1997, the only people who should be getting paid on the 3rd day of the month are a) people who applied for benefits prior to April 30 1997, or b) people who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, or c) people who are residing outside of the U.S. So, if you've been receiving your benefits on the 3rd of the month then you apparently meet one of those exceptions. People who don't meet one of the exceptions are normally paid on either the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday of the month depending on the birthday of the worker on whose record their benefits are paid (https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-01957).

Best, Jerry
