Will My Medicare Premiums Be Automatically Deducted From My Benefits?

I will soon turn 66 and plan to file a restricted application for benefits on my 74 year old husband's work record. Will my Medicare premium be automatically deducted from the social security check, or will Medicare send me premium bills? With regard to paying Medicare premium bills, what is the safest method--personal check, money order, credit card, on-line bill pay through my bank, or having Medicare deduct the premium electronically from my checking account? Which is the best way to ensure that the payment is likely to be received and recorded timely?

Hi,

When you start receiving monthly Social Security benefits, Medicare premium withholding will be mandatory. Up until then, I don't really think it makes much difference which method you choose to pay your premiums (https://www.medicare.gov/your-medicare-costs/paying-parts-a-and-b/pay-pa...).

Best, Jerry
